Playing with my anchor point...
« on: July 15, 2009, 10:45:00 AM »
I've been shooting for years and am a decent shot.  Some days I'm on and when I'm on I shoot real well but there are days that I can't seem to get it together.  I'm not one to tinker with my form much.  I shoot the way I shoot and it's always served me well.  That being said I recognize that there is always room for improvement.

A week ago, while shooting, I hurt my shoulder on my draw arm.  I laid off for a few days and switched down to a lighter bow.  I suspect that I'm not using my back as much as I should when I shoot.

I did some reading over here yesterday and decided last night to try out the double anchor point that some talk about.  I started hooking my thumb behind my jaw last night.  I ran into two issues.

First, I shoot split fingers and am real comfortable with that and don't want to change that at this point.  This caused my arrow to be about an inch lower on my face.

Secondly, while it was easy to be consistent with my thumb and jaw as an anchor it was difficult to establish the front anchor to make it a "double."  My finger was simply below the corner of my mouth, which is where I have anchored in the past.

All said and done though, I shot really well.  There was a lot of consistency between shots with less left/right variation.  I'm pretty pleased and intend to shoot that way again tonight.

I just wanted to run my concerns by you all and see if you have any suggestions.  Basically I'm still not shooting a double anchor, I've just changed my single anchor...

A double anchor can be two places...it doesn't have to be the two places I use, or someone else uses.  Find two that works for you.....sounds like you already have one, so use it and find another that promotes back tension and proper alignment.

Take care.
