Inconsistent with a recurve

I recently bought a Black Widow recurve to hunt out of a ground blind for an antelope hunt next year. I have my arrows perfectly tuned and I have been shooting it everyday. The problem is that one day I can hit anything I look at and then the next I can not hit anything at all. I just can not seem to find what I am doing any different for such a varience of results. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Is it a short limbed Widow? I have found out you have to do everything right on a shorter limbed bow. Come to full anchor, hold, good clean release,and hold the bow on target until after the arrow hits. I just started shooting recurves again after a couple year layoff. I was shooting nothing but longbows. Longbows for me IMHO are more  forgiving to mistakes you make. Practice CLOSE to the target under 10 yards until you do everything 100%. Practice on getting your form down first. Then work on your distance. bentpole >>>>~~~~~>

It is a 58" bow. I was shooting a longbow before. I noticed imediately how more forgiving a longbow was when shooting out of position.

I had the same trouble with grips that didn't suit my shooting style. You probably know more than I do, but that is the same reason that I can't shoot any of the "smaller" grips. I can shoot very well one day, then it all goes to crap.

I have resigned myself to just admire how well other people can shoot the small grips. I think, for me, that the grip turns in my hand and causes the inconsistency. I still have a lot to learn, and I really like the looks of a lot of bows......but have found out that the smaller grips, and the really large grips are not going to be consistent for me.

It took me a while, on each bow that I no longer own to accept that fact. The truth is that I shoot this hummingbird recurve as well, or better than any bow that I have owned....to date.

That being said.......I still admire certain things in bows, looks wise.....BUT.....the deciding factor for me is gonna be whether I can shoot it well, consistently.

going through a routine really helped me making sure my stance is right my fingers are on the string in the right place come to anchor and so on and also i quit shooting my full quiver of arrows i shoot 1 arrow at a time if i shoot more than that i loose my focus.

Weight and grip definitely seem like the culprit to me. I have 3 nearly identical Pearson Cougars. All with the same riser at 62" but two are 40# and one is 45#

Even switching between those three bows I need time for adjustment.

Also, you may just be shooting too much. I find that if I have a frustrating day of shooting - I'll want to sit at the range all day until I make it "better" in my mind. Every set I'll say "okay this is the last one and it will be my best". One more turns to six, turns to eight, etc. lol

Some days the body and mind just say "I'm not doing this today".

I bet you are putting pressure on yourself to gain consistency too fast and your mind won't relax.

Back in the day when Black Widows were real BW"S & the Wilson Bros made them they were one of the most forgiving bows around. Had an original for years but moved to a different bow when Wilson Bros sold out. now I shoot a White Wolf Custom and it's almost point and shoot. Very forgiving no matter the length. Give the a look see.

it sounds like bentpole got everything covered.shorter faster bow are not as forgiving and needs the same shot routine and form

I agree.  Sounds like bentpole's got it covered.  Take some time to forget about hitting anything, get about 10 yards, or even less, back from a blank target of some sort and shoot for 1/2 hour maybe 45 minutes a day until they're all going to the same place.  Then work on getting that place to be one you select.

there are lots of things you left out of your post.     two places to start working on is 1) a consistant grip on the bow.  2) consistant pressure on release fingers at full draw.  

this is assuming that you have got terry's form clock down.  little difference in your gip (to much thumb pressure, different spot on you thumb pad, etc) well mover the shot around te target.  more pressure one one finger or changing pressure can mover the arrow around the target.
