2117 for 50# bow

Hey guys,
I shoot a bear grizzly 50# @28. I found some easton 2117 arrows on sale pretty cheap and was thinking about buying them for this bow. I looked at eastons website on their arrow chart and it says the spine is about right. Do you guys think they would tune out of this bow?? I don't know a whole lot about aluminum. Thanks

I use 2016's and 2018's in a 50 + bow....
You might need more than 125 upfront for the 2117's

Very heavy spine for that bow. 2016 would be a lot closer to what you need.

They will be too stiff, I couldn't shoot them out of a 53 lb Bob Lee recurve with 185 up front. 2016's will be the ticket for you if you are going with alum arrows.

I am currently using 2117 cut 32". I draw 50ish at 30"
These arrows are acting stiff. Its been a while since I've shot due to shoulder probs, but If I recall I was working on some 2016 shafts with 145gr tips cut to 31" when I had to lay it down for a little over a year.
I shoot a bear Kodiak Hunter 45Lbs@28" I draw to 30"

Depends on your draw and point weight - completely. If you are like me and draw 29+ " and like 145gr heads, them 2117 is right in there. If you are closer to 28" or less then a 2018 should work great.

Way stiff. 2117's spine at 83# if I remember right.

Give em a try. I shoot a Black Widow that is 51#@28", I draw 29-29.5" and use 2117 or 2216's with my bow. I've had others at 50# that I used 2018's with.

Adam,
2117 is a 77.4# spine - way stiff.
The 2016 (59.3#) advice is good. Also 2114 (61.8#) and maybe even 2115 (68.3#) or 2018 (67.9#).

I'm shooting 2213, 53# @ 27", PSE Impala. I'm fairly new to this, but they seem to be shooting OK. Is the spine more determined by the shaft diameter or the wall thickness. How do they correlate?

Adam, the 2016's as suggested above are probably gonna get you in the ball park if you're drawing 28" you would then probably just need to tune it in with length and point weight.
Alaska mike, they both come into play when it comes to actual spine. A thicker wall makes it stiffer as does a larger diameter. The larger diameter has more effect on spine than the wall thickness. As far as correlation, look at the spine values on Cupcakes post above.

Guys who can shoot them probably have bows that are cut well to center. You would need to add weight to the point area to those 2117'. 2016 is the way to go. Many of the local pro shops are getting away from aluminum and you can pick them up pretty cheap.
I'm using 2016 on my 52 pound recurve....28" arrow....and they are flying perfectly, and I'm using 145 grain heads.
