Any repair suggestions?
« on: November 16, 2007, 06:20:00 PM »
I had put about 40-45 arrows through her and then this happened.

The current problem.

Had her at full draw and heard the “tick”.  It was small at first so I put Super Glue on her and sanded her down.  Shot another 20 arrows and saw that the split and lift was getting longer.  More glue.

Now I’m wondering if I should make a more substantial repair, such as this repair “wrap” before doing more finishing and shooting in.

Possible cure

This repair was already made on a $5 bow I got at a garage sale.  Has a bad set but OK for the kids.

Any repair suggestions for the bamboo?

To quote Rusty "Sinew is Magic".  I can’t say for certain without seeing the bow, but wrap it good with sinew and it should fix the problem.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

get as much glue as you can in and under the splinter, and back it.

To followup what Walt said: This has worked for me but the area to be repaired might be longer on your bow so a regular backing might be best.

Small pieces of sinew/hide glue in line with the grain.

Whole limb wrapped with sinew/hide glue

My friend pulling 55# at 30"+ draw with no limb problems. Sinew wrap is on lower limb.

Got it.  Thanks guys.  Sinew with the grain, then the wrap.  I think I may go ahead and back it the whole length after that.  The bow is feeling pretty good.  Hate to lose it.

Thanks again for the ideas,
Dingus
