Dura-Glove Question- Finger Soreness
« on: February 21, 2010, 10:47:00 AM »
Let me start this by saying that I am a quasi-new shooter.  I shot trad about 8 years ago, but haven't been shooting at all until about a month ago.  I am shooting a bow that draws 46# at my 31 inch draw length.

For the first 3 weeks I shot with no pain or discomfort at all in my shooting hand.  None.

Over the last few days, I have started to develop some soreness on the top of my index finger (by the base of my fingernail).  The "hook" where the string touches my fingers is not sore at all.  I have diagnosed the problem being that sometimes the seam of the leather sometimes rubs against my finger up there.  I find the longer I shoot the more sore it typically gets.  Then again, there are times when I do not have any discomfort.

I am shooting anywhere from 15-50+ arrows a day if the weather lets me. I usually shoot no more than 25 arrows in a session and usually do 1-2 sessions a day.

Has anyone had any similar issues like this before?  Do you think this is a "shooting too much too soon problem" or an issue with the glove itself?

Sometimes I shoot and there are no issues at all.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

I believe you need to develope some "archery calluses".  Perhaps your fingers aren't toughened yet.

I had the same problem.  I can't recall what fingers and where on them, but I got rid of the glove and problem solved.  Started shooting a tab.  The seams in that glove and some others just didn't work for me at all.  I am playing with a super glove now and no problems at all with that one.  I shot a pac-tab most all the time.

Make sure you elbow is down.  If you get it up and use shoulder muscles in place of back muscles you can lift the arm and put a lot of pressure on the index finger.  I used to have that also.

One other thing is that short bows have more finger pinch and when I shoot them it was the index finger that took most of the pinch.

I'd try xtrema's advice. try a tab and make sure of your form ie..keep your elbow down in line with your arrow.
