First Basemans Glove!

I'm not sure if I will get any responses, or even where I'm headed with this, but this is what happens when it gets slow at work and my mind wanders!

Years ago when I began shooting traditional bows and instinctive shooting, a fellow told me "trust yourself, with enough practice at different ranges, your brain will, in time, know what hold you will need to hit your mark at different ranges, its like throwing a baseball, you don't think about it, through years of practice when you throw a baseball it goes right into your teammates glove"

I thought way back then, what I still think now whenever I here that compaison, I sure hope I learn to shoot my bow better than that or I'd better give up, when I think about it, thats why even in professional baseball the first basemans glove is elongated, with the best baseball 'marksmen' in the world throwing to first base, all they need to do is hit about an 8 foot group (in archery terms!) to throw their opponent out, from an in the dirt throw to 2 foot over the first basemans head the out is still made.

There just has to be a better comparison to make to the art of traditional archery, then again, that is the exact thought that gives me hope on days when I can't hit the broad side of a barn!!!!

Some players are satisfied to throw it in the dirt as long as they get the runner out.

 Some hunters are satisfied with sticking an arrow in flesh as long as they can trail up the target.

 In the end it depends on what your level of satisfaction is. Like they say, aim small miss small. Develop your own maximum range and be sure to stay within  it.

I think the idea behind the analogy is that you make a throw that hits your teammate's glove w/out him having to move it; in other words, the ball goes right where you look when you throw it.

Often times the degree of accuracy the ball is delivered to the firstbaseman is directly related to the degree of duress he is under. At practice we can hit the firstbasemans glove virtually at wiil where he places it...(yes, I'm a former shortstop),BUT, when the ball is hit hard to the left or right and some effort has to be made to field it..then a more hurried throw needs to be made..hence the lessened degree of accuracy. The same correlation can be made to bow shooting...if the shot must be hurried..accuracy suffers...at which point you need to ask yourself if you are capable of making the shot or ethically should even try. Differnt activities, but both are very much HAND AND EYE COORDINATION!.....

Yep....to me, its just like throwing a ball....

But its not 'playing baseball' which is what you are reading into it.

Everyone has differen't ways of describing it....no need to get bogged down in termanology debates.....they just confuse the issue and destract from the real task at hand of shooting correctly and accurately.
