silk backing ?

I am putting a silk backing on a board bow I am building,do I have to put one continuous piece down the back or can I over lap pieces at the handle section? I found a silk shirt at the goodwill store so my silk isn't long enough for one long piece. Thanks

Hey Tracy,
I've not built one myself but one of the all wood bows I had built for my wife was backed with silk. The silk came from a tie picked up at the goodwill & like your shirt was too short. The bowyer did I believe overlap the pieces at the handle. It's held up well so far, she shoots the bow fairly frequently.

Over lapping is fine.....I used to buy shirts at goodwill, but they cost about $3. I go to Joanne Fabrics and get a 1/8 yard of silk for the same price. You can also buy light colored silk so it can be dyed whatever color you like.
