Sharpster...

was just wondering if you could show us how YOU go about sharpening a Grizzly or other single-bevel BH out of the package. How do you acquire the bevel that the good doctor prescribes and then how do YOU get one razor sharp. I have my own methods, that work ok for me, but would love to see how a pro does it and learn some new "tricks".

I've been planning to do a sharpen-along with pics and maybe video of both single and double bevel broadheads. I would also like to do a "how to" video of free-hand knife sharpening.

Hey Ron, I too would like to see how you do Grizzlies. I think I can get them pretty darn sharp, now that I have been using your sharpener, but I'm always looking to see how others do it.

Sharpster, there is a good how to on posting pics from Photo Bucket in the forum "How Toos" section. Not sure if they've added one on videos, but PB has some instructions (I haven't looked at them) and it shouldn't be that different once you get the video uploaded to there. Once you get the hang of the pics it's Duck Soup - and the videos should follow suite. Give it a whirl and good luck - read the how to and try posting a pic here, you'll be at it before you know it.

That is one nice looking BH!! Looks like it could do some serious damage to anything getting in it's path. I can also see where even touching it up could be a real challenge...sharpening the length of that edge without damaging the ferrule is going to be tough.

Yes, thanks, Moengo. Art is a Master craftsman of primitive bows, arrows (Cane), points and I'm sure a lot of other stuff and one heck of a nice guy. He doesn't sell any of his stuff but makes it for himself, his family, and a "few" friends. He did mine for me mostly because of my support of the kid archers (and club) at ATAR - you know, my "Dino Thread" under Trad Events forum. He lives with terrible arthritis but never complains or gets surly. Heck of a Primative bow shooter too. I had a thread on here (aprox August) about the arrows he made me (and the points) still in the Pow Wow archives, I'm sure. I haven't even asked him about sharpening them - but he isn't "chalenged" in that area - like me. What you may preceive as a ferule, is probably the Epoxy he uses to afix the trade pooints (Made from Sawmill blades) to the footers of the Canes. After it sets he hits the epoxy with a heat gun and it smooths out like that.

Bernie, I would not sharpen those BH's...seriously, you will just be tempted to use them and they are too pretty to be hunted with and bloodied.

LOL - I know what you mean, Moengo, but the one thing Art always tells everyone is that his arrows, "must be hunted/shot". He doesn't just make them - he actually tests each arrow he makes, both before and after permanently afixing either fletchings and/or points. I've been carrying those three all season (I practice and do shoots with the other twelve he made for me, and a Japenese Bamboo one he had given to me at ATAR (which is what got me started on them). I've had only one shot op, went right under her chest, the feathers hit her under-chest and she exploded straight up in the air. She came down, danced around to take off, and snapped my beautemous arrow off at the ground - right at the footing top. Art had me send it back to him, put new, "even better" (his words) footing and point on and had it back to me within the week. Believe me, even his BH arrows fly so straight it's scary. Anytime you are off, you know you did something wrong - very humbling   :rolleyes:         but what a pleasure to shoot.

I am in the ordering stage now with Sharpster  for his tool and some good stones - to make sure I do the points (and my other BHs) justice.
