Form draw length video
« on: September 11, 2010, 10:08:00 PM »
I would really like some help in analyzing my alignment as it applies to the form clock.  Please review my video and comment.

I have been working on trying to settle on a draw length.  I decided to try and make a video.  I did a few and it looked like I needed to get my string arm back more and extend my draw length.  This video is about a 1/4" in draw length shorter than I am now drawings.  It looks to me like I need to get my elbow back more so it comes around into line with my hand a little more.  Before making any more changes, I wanted to get some input on my alignment to see if I just need to get my elbow back farther, or if I need to make other changes to my alligment.

This is my first ever try at putting a video in the computer, editing it, and trying to post it.  Let me know if I need to change the video in any way.  I made it smaller than original because I didn't know what I could load to photo bucket and post here.

I made this video to try and just hold a draw length for a couple seconds so I could get some input on my alignment and then just dump the arrow in a bag target on my garage floor. I know my follow-through is not the best, but that was not the intent.

Ok here it goes.  I hope this works.

Hi extrema, Ya isn't getting a video on here a voyage of discovery?   :bigsmyl:

Your shoulder alignment looks pretty good and your drawing arm is nicely lined up with the arrow.

What I think you should work on is the draw.  You look to come behind your anchor point and then allow your draw hand to move forward to your anchor.  Then you reapply tension to get it moving back again.finally you have a very small collapse on release.  You can see this if you sort of tap quickly on the play/stop button and make the video a manual stop action.

Try to draw directly to your anchor position, then continue to apply back tension through release.  By allowing yourself to have ANY movement forward as you come to anchor, it is nearly impossible to get it (back tension) reengaged.

Thanks for the input.  You are correct on the shot and my searching for an anchor point.  I kind of did that on purpose to hold at anchor to check alignment at a specific draw length rather than doing a normal shot.  I had tape on my arrow for the first series of shots with tape on my bow so I could line up an exact draw length.  However, my new cover on my yellow jacket was taking the tape off too fast.  From the first video I could see my old draw length of 29 1/4" was too short to get my elbow in line with the arrow much less in line with my hand.  For this video I put a black mark with a sharpie on the shafts and used that to reference my draw length at 29 3/4".  I am really drawing back and trying to line up a black line on a dark shaft and the tape rather than just concentrating on the shot.  I probably should put on a clicker to do this or just feel the shot so I could just concentrate on shooting.

I was thinking my shoulders looked decent for alignment if I am looking at it right, but my elbow, hand, arrow, and forearm are more in line.  Not like the form clock where the elbow comes around more inside the arrow line, and more in line with the wrist.  I don't know if I need to rotate the arm more or if this is somewhat a physical build thing.
