Considering a switch to 3 under. Questions

I've been considering switching to 3 under for next season. (Too late to switch this year.)  I seem to struggle a bit with string pressure when shooting split and I don't have the cleanest release all the time either.  I used the search feature and from what I've read in older posts a switch to 3 under would help with this.  Especially the uneven and inconsistant string pressure.  All of my bows are tillered for split finger but I know with a little tuning you can shoot a split tillered bow 3 under but I'm not sure what all I need to change on my bows (brace?  Nock point?).  Should I keep my anchor at the corner of my mouth and just change to my index finger instead of my middle finger?  Any help from those wiser than I would be greatly appreciated.

You're probably gonna end up moving your nock point higher on the string. I think mine is at 3/4"(or 7/8", I forget exactly). I anchor with my middle finger at the corner of my mouth. Try both and see which is more comfortable and gives you the most desired results. If you want a closer point-on distance, then the middle finger will work best.

The main thing is to give 3-under a decent chance before you go back to split. Don't give up on 3-under too soon and it'll work for you and you'll be glad you made the switch.

Any bow made for split can be shot three under with a slight change in nock point, perhaps. I've hunted with several bows in this manner. I kept my anchor point exactly the same (middle finger in corner of mouth): No worries!

Yep, it will feel a bit different at first, but it will become second-nature pretty soon.

Might have to go up with the nock. Expect your first couple of arrows to be low. Mine were in the dirt at 20 yards, I settled on my middle finger at the corner of my mouth, something you will have to figure out what feels best. All my bows are tillered split so they were a tad bit louder but shooting a heavier arrow elimated that. I compared my 3d scores from the previous year(split) to my scores when I switched and my average went up. All I can say is give it a month or so before you decide if three under is for you.

Made the switch this summer. Took about a week and I was good to go, BUT DO YOURSELF A FAVOR and shoot blank bail for a week or two before trying to hit anything. This will allow you to focus on form. Watch masters of the barebow 3 and it will answer a lot of questions. I watch it over and over myself.

I just finished the Rod Jenkins clinic.  While there some of the guys were shooting 3 under. I gave it a try,liked it, and decided to switch. Part of Rods training is to shoot blank bales for 3 weeks working on form. Im at day 13 and really like the 3 under. I am using the cavalier elite tab. Metal frame makes consistent string placement easy.  By using thumb and pinky the plate places in palm consistently. I use thumb knuckle on jaw and fletch on nose.

Make sure your knocks aren't to loose...I saw a guy at bear camp bust a tip off while shooting 3 under.. kept falling off the string right before he released...

I switched to three under a while back ,Just make sure that your consistent with pressure always on two fingers ,Or be consistent with pressure on all three ,I use a Damascus glove ,But I am thinking about switching to a tab because of the Consistency.

Since I have switched to the three under I now have three bows from Chad Holm ,All three are tilled for three under. Chad really does good work.

I kinda started all over when I went to three under ,First thing I did was I got a low poundage bow 36# @ 29" For developing my form. My next one was for target practice 43# @29" And I have my last one that I just added 46&1/2# @ 29" For hunting.  

All shoot very well with three under ,No noise, Very quiet smooth all the way back to anchor, Shot execution is excellent .

Like I said Chad holm,Does excellent work he is a sponsor on here .With two of my bows he spent over 2 1/2 hours apiece with me when I want to pick them up, making sure that everything was custom fitted to me .Great guy .

When you first start with three under you do have to be patient with yourself, give yourself some time .

#1 Make a commitment to stick with it for at least two months .

#2 Be consistent in what you do with your anchor point and in drawing your arrow .Become a robot, What I mean by that is do the same thing all the time .

#3  Talk yourself through every shot ,And shoot one arrow at a time for a while ,So that you can see exactly what is taking place each time,In your shot execute ,Evaluate ,Change only one thing at a time .

# 4 Do not copy anybody ,You have to develop it for yourself ,You can take ideas from others but incorporated it so that it is your form.

#5 Most of all keep it fun don't let it become work or you will become discouraged ,And admit to yourself when it is not working for you give it up ,It has to fit you .

I switched last winter after last deer season. I had fooled around with 4 or 5 times and hated it. One day after the season I decided to give it another try and for some reason it felt natural. Does take time and not for everyone but like others said, give yourself time to develope it without a bullseye. Blank targets let you find your form. I switched my anchor and picked up a half inch in draw length.

The young lad switched to 3 under after the Rod Jenkins clinic last year-he has not switched back so he must like it. We moved up his nock point and he kept the same anchor. My suggestion is that all this is art-not science. So try stuff and see what you like.

your anchor point can stay the same i switched 6yrs ago and my anchor didnt change except for the fact my pointing finger moved a fuzz, best of luck  <><
