Another 3 under question?
« on: December 12, 2010, 09:09:00 PM »
I've been shooting 3 under for almost a year, and lately I have been starting to pull the arrow off the shelf.  I am right handed, and as soon as I start to draw I pull it off, I cant quite figure it out.  Unequal pressure on all 3 fingers maybe?    Any help would be appreciated. Thanks alot...DB

It can be caused by starting with a shallow hook on the string and curling into a deeper hook as you draw. OR....new glove or tab?

Hard to really say without seeing but...
Be sure that you have a hook into the first joint of your string fingers, and your wrist so relaxed that it bends inward as you start the draw.  Tension in that wrist and an outward bend in the wrist will tend to twist the string in the wrong direction.

Torqueing the string, putting a counterclockwise force on the string with your string hand, will push the arrow off the rest.  It will also destroy your accuracy, generally causing you to hit left, so if your accuracy is still good, it is probably something else.

Touching the nock with your index finger--maybe?

Make sure your hand is relaxed as much as possible. If it is not, it can cause your fingers to move toward your palm as you start to draw causing the string to twist to the left (if RH) and the arrow will come off the shelf.

I had the same thing happen and found i was drawing the bow with most of the tension on my index finger.
Started drawing the bow with equal tension on all three fingers and seen improvement. Concentrate on getting more bow weight on fingers two and three.

Try lowering your draw arm elbow. I had the same quirk for a few shots and that was my remedy.

Fixed it by going to two fingers under and got cleaner release as well.

Thanks for all the advice, still working through it, less pressure on my index finger seems to be working good.  DB

If it happens to me I make sure I am getting a deep hook.  That seems to fix the problem.

Deep hook fixed mine, also I now slide the tab up the string until it gently contacts the nock, then I start my drawing motion.
