Hitting 12" to the right....Please help !!!!
« on: March 09, 2011, 09:03:00 PM »
Im consistantly hitting 10-12" to the right and I can not figure out why ! My arrows are flying like lazers, both bare shaft and fleched arrows will group together at 20 yards and my bare shaft is sticking in the target perfectly straight. Im pretty sure its me but i cant figure out what im doing. Any ideas ?

How about some specs of your set-up. Also, are you anchoring properly or is your hand/fingers against your face? Specs first.

Try canting the bow less. That will move the arrow to the left. I had one bow that shot right for me, and I had to hold it vertically to get on target. I sold that bow.

If you are canting the bow, move the top limb tip a bit to the left. A little trial and error will get you on target...
i like to us a 1/2" black vertical line while doing this... start at 5 yards and move back as you get the feel 5 yards at a time.

Could it be that you are torqing your bow?

I'd want a bit more FOC than that (I generally shoot for 18%-20%) but that isn't the reason you're shooting right.. That shaft might be a little weak but I'm not sure how the actually spine when tested...

I'd work on the cant...

I shoot with index and thumb around bow and all others on center line. Sometimes bottom three dont touch at all.

I have the same issue from time to time. Nearly the same specs as you do. I believe my prob is that I'm collapsing upon release, and plucking the string.

Might be happening to you too?

Good luck,

Brian

Get someone to watch you shoot, paying special attention to your arrow point... if you are collasping the point will start forward before you loose it... Generally this is from not using back tension...

Rob,

I gripped my bow exactly like you described for a number of years.  My shooting was too on-again, off-again.  I went to gripping my handle so that all my fingers make contact with it.  I found that this grip controls the bow more consistently for me.  It seemed that with just a thumb and index finger grip, at least for me, the bow had too much of an opportunity to torque or "float".

Try it.  It may help.

Most of the problems shooters have usually don't get solved when shooting at 20yds..
I suggest shooting at 10 feet then you'll be able to see what adjustments you may need to make ...
If your bow is cut to center, then most likely its your form or lack of, that needs work..
It could be a foot placement issue.. Try stepping forward with your right foot..
Just a quarter step could bring your arrows over to the left 4-6" or more..
A half step forward with the right foot could bring you over to the left 10-12"..
If you're slightly off balance it could throw your arrows off...
So changing your stance could be the solution...

I disagree with the cant of the bow being the problem. An archer should be able to cant the bow at any angle and still shoot accurately. Doing this would only cause somebody to just cover up the real problem.
