Point out my flaws please
« on: March 22, 2011, 09:17:00 PM »
OK, tonight I decided to take a few videos of Erin & I shooting.

I know that I have flaws in my form & I'm hoping with me working with the Formaster that I made & some good watchful eyes here can point out other areas I need to address.
One thing that has always irritated me is my bow arm, it bends down ward even when my elbow is 90* to the bow, you can see it in the video but I've yet to find a fix for this.

I also have a few of Erin too so ya can see what I need to address with her that I'm not already telling her in the videos.

The 1st thing I see is a forward creep.

Watch your vids...and the point of the arrow....dead give away.

Once you cure that....re-film and post again.  Best to work on ONE thing at a time.

Stay after it!

That's one flaw I'm working on with the Formaster.
2 people pointed out to me that it  could be  how I get to my anchor "which needs improving I know" that gives that look of creep but again I'm working on sliding into my anchor as my shoulder is set.

The arrow is moving forward before and at release....that is creep.  Don't think it has anything to do with 'getting to anchor'....but everything to do with 'losing anchor'

Again....stay after it.    :campfire:

Agreed it is creep I was just stating what a few others mentioned to me before.

Do you see anything in Erin I should be addressing?

Erin is looking good.....she's off to a great start that's for sure.  I don't really see anything much at all but more diligent practice to groove it in solid.

BTW....looks like you got your hands full.  The clip of you....them little ones cracked me up!

#1 - You're a packrat (me too).

#2 - agree with Terry, watch the tip of the arrow in the video just prior to release.

#3 - the bow arm is bent excessively and drops at release.  Follow through.  You don't want a locked arm but it's tough to keep consistant with a deep bend.  My archery coach taught me to roll my elbow up so the joint is horizontal to the ground.  Tough to do and feels wrong, but it helps (stops string slap, too).

Watch Erin's bow arm!  She's doing it naturally!    :scared:

If you look from behind you can see that my elbow is pointing out away from the bow but the bend is actually 90* of the natural bend of the elbow, that is what I was talking about in the first posting that is irritating me to no end & I wish I could get my arm to be straight like hers.

Yeah, I'm a pack rat but I'm taking the 10 steps to cure myself, just keep going back to step 1 for some reason.

I would say to put less pressure on your duaghter and just let her shoot (make it fun). for you TG already stated.
“instinctive archery” is more like playing the violin. Without practice you may remember the mechanics, but you will not be a virtuoso.
