Does anyone shoot Techno Hunt or Dart?
« on: April 22, 2011, 11:40:00 PM »
I'm just curious if anyone shoots a video system like techno hunt or a dart target system to help diversify their practice?

I've shot them for years with my wheelie bows and decided to try it with my longbow today.... What a blast!!!  Kind of a cross between stump shooting and actual hunting.  I think it's a great tool to add to the practice arsenal.

Just curious what others think.

I do every chance I get, its fun and especially if its one of those that shows you where your arrow hits.

It is fun but I can't seem to convince my brain that all the shots are really just twenty yards!  Tend to shoot high on the ones that look far away. Maybe its just me.

Ha Ha I'm glad I'm not the only one to do that!  It's easier with the wheelie bow because you always know to use the top pin but with my longbow I always shoot over the "farther" ones!

I shot Dart back in the '90s with trad and loved it. Don't know of any Dart places around here anymore.   :(  Would like to find one though if anybody knows of any within a hundred mile radius of central KY.

That's my problem too.  The nearest one is 3 hours away so I seldom get to shoot it.  Probably a good thing though or I might go broke because I would shoot it everyday!   :archer2:

I shot one a few weeks ago. Against my two boys that were using there wheel bows. Did ok I thought. Blamed some if it on I shoot 175 grain tips and all they have there are 100 and 125 grain tips that we had to use to shoot the screen with. Does any one know where you can buy those special tips in 175 and heavyer grains?

Jeff i set up 1/2 dozen arrows with added insert weight so the 125gr dart tips worked for the arrow spine. Worked great after that.

I was shooting Dart at an out-of-state friend's local range when I visited for a while.  It is a lot of fun.  Once I learned to shoot at the screen and not the animals (think 15 yard squirrel instead of 60 yard caribou) I did fine.  We were driving the compound shooters nuts by taking the shot the instant the game appeared if it was out of cover.  You also get to know the routine if you play long enough and know when it's "Bear in Aspen from left" you'll have a shot opening if you wait, etc., etc.

Still, it's a LOT better than watching TV at home on a rainy off-season day.

:laughing:Now that would be fun!!!  Not to mention cheaper!

The only drawback would be no scoring and it would be hard to see exactly where you hit.

Holly crap what a blast that stuff is.  There is one in Sparta Tennessee don't know how far that is from you but its a pretty good time and the guy there doesnt charge too much either.  By far the hardest one I've shot was turkey heads.  The only score ring was on the head.  It was a blast.

Jeremy maybe we should do it again, now that you have a real bow.  LOL LOL.
What tip weights did you end up using?

We definitely need to do it again.  It seems like the 175's worked best.  And I got the beaver tail put on- it adds a nice finishing touch.
