Good Trade?
« on: November 19, 2007, 04:16:00 PM »
I've made no secret of the fact I started collecting mid to late 50's Bear bows in the 50-55# range (anybody got a '59 Polar?  :) )  with the plan to hunt with each of them for a few years before moving on to the next.  Well I managed to talk Bjorn out of these two beauties and am having a hard time deciding which to hunt with next year:

The Grizzly has about the prettiest (I can say that word, right?) rosewood I-beam I've seen and shoots like a dream.  The '57 Kodiak Special is my own LDB and I'm really driving tacks with it!  He refinished the KS very nicely and the Grizz has been refurbished.  Both are completely ready to hit the woods!!  Most of the other bows I have on the rack at least need to be cleaned up and get a top coat to get them ready.  :)

Bjorn doesn't have these yet(they'll be in the mail tomorrow) but I finished the last sheath up and figured I'd post a pic and tease him a little bit:

He'll have another knife coming from me too.  It won't exactly match these two, but it'll complement them and be a looker  ;)

I'll get some better pics of the bows up (and in action) when the sun is out.

Those are beautiful Jeremy, Bjorn will love them.......as for which bow to hunt with, I'd go with the '57 KS.......looks like you both made out on this one!

Finally got the baby to go to bed and realized I forgot to take a pic:

The neck knife is a tight-fit pancake style sheath that holds the knife handle down.  The skinner is just a normal wet-formed belt sheath.  Both out of 10oz veggie tanned leather and built to outlast me.  :)

Vman, with your preferences in bows, why would I put a macassar ebony handle on your knife?  I think something black, shiny and sleek would be a better fit  :)

The knife butt in the last pic is from a knife finishing up a trade for a '62 Grizzly (it'll be in mail Wed Jim).

Frank, the problem with making a knife for you is I have to make one for Shell too so she doesn't steal it!  LOL!  Who am I kidding, she'll just take 'em both!  :D

Izzy, I'm redoing the antler portion on your father's old knife.  I didn't like that it ended up all polished rather than the natural finish.

The knives arrived today...........Jeremy is every bit the craftsman that I had hoped he would be. The sheaths are beautiful and the knives are simply stunning, and feel so good in the hand-a perfect size.  Can't wait to bloody them!
Thanks Jeremy!
