Form Video of Me...HELP
« on: June 25, 2011, 04:31:00 PM »
Well I said I would do this along time ago and just never got around to doing it. Please tell me what I need to improve on. If you need a better video I could post a different one. I plan on getting different angles hopefully later today. Thanks!

Sorry its sideways, I'll try and fix it later.

snake,  It is a little hard to be to analytical with my head held sideways.   :D

What I can see is pretty food form except you are "cranking" your bow shoulder WAYYYYY to far forward.  Stand still and hold that bow shoulder DOWN AND BACK!!!!!   Not Up and forward.  That fix will go a long way for you!

Yeah...looks like you got some bow torque going on....looks like your bow arm is moving left far and rapidly to the left on the shot.

After a little blind baling I took a few more videos. I know I still need to work on it but can you tell any difference?

snake, over all you are looking pretty good.  Look at where your head is and how you are postured in the second video at the start of the draw.  When the bow is up and ready to draw, you are in pretty good position.  STAY THERE AND DRAW TO YOUR FACE, DO NOT GO TO MEET THE STRING!!!!  Then as you start the draw, watch your head move forward and down.  You can really see how far you move forward and down in the third video from behind.  Thee is no reason to bend that far over and it is adding motion that you do not need or want.  Especially when you are "blank baling.  there MAY be reason in the field to do that but when you are working on form that "bow" is hurting your shot.

Work on drawing to you, DO NOT GO TO MEET IT!!!

Much Better !!!

Here's a little clip showing 'bringing the equipment to you'.... This is my 'back yard' / 'go to shot'.

   Isolation and Slow Motion

   From the Rear

The more you practice....you will learn where to put YOURSELF so that all the equipment comes to you.

Stay after it.    :campfire:

Thank you guys! I've been working on this on and off today. I can already tell a HUGE difference in my consistency. I'll be helping family harvest wheat all week so I might not be able to post a video. If I get a chance I will. Thanks again I would have never caught my head or my shoulder moving so much.    :notworthy:    THANK YOU!!!!     :archer:

Those next 3 videos are a big improvement from your first.
Here's something you may or may not want to try, it's up to you..
When you address your target, take a half step forward or so with your left foot.

I agree with everyone above, what moebow said X 2, bring the string to your face, not the other way around.

Also upon release, less movement goes a long way towards good accuracy.

The  last video was much better than the first.

Good luck.

Ok guys its been awhile been very busy. I did manage to work on my shooting a little in the last two weeks, the good news is I can tell a big difference. I even experienced (briefly) that feeling that without a doubt I knew where my arrow was going. It was a really awesome feeling. It started at 10 yards and I could do it out to 25ish. It only lasted about 10 minutes but I think I'm getting close. It happened again (briefly) tonight while practicing.

So I'm still fighting my head moving. Its hard to undo bad habits quickly, but I'll get it. Let me know if you see anything wrong. Thanks again guys!

HUGE IMPROVEMENT!!!!!  You are really looking good and as you say, it will take some practice to get it to be consistent.
One thing I would suggest now is a technique to help you FEEL the drawing sequence and get you even more into your back.  If you watch your drawing elbow in both clips, see how that elbow is moving in a slight upwards direction?  Try this, when you raise the bow to draw, bring your bow hand, arrow and string arm up as high as your nose and try to draw moving your string arm elbow in a slight downward direction to full draw position.  Right now, you are starting the draw at about shoulder level.

When your elbow is moving upwards as it is in the videos, you are using only the top of your shoulder to draw (deltoids). This makes it harder to really transfer to your back (rhomboids).

The high to low motion makes you use the back of the shoulder (rather than the top) and makes the transfer to the back easier because it is in the same line (direction).

Snake, great improvement!  Keep at it.

Thanks fmscan! It does take hard work but its defiantly worth it!  I can't believe how much its helped with my accuracy doing what people have told me to work on. I tell that I'm better aligned and this last little tip Moebow gave I'm starting to use my back muscle properly. I'll post another video once I get the bugs worked out. Thanks again everybody!
