problem
« on: August 29, 2011, 05:08:00 PM »
I am shooting a Great Northern Ghost recurve. It is 60" long 64# @29". My draw on this bow is 25 1/4 so that makes me shooting 54#. I just put a brand new flemish string on and shot it in, brace height is 7 3/8 inches. Now the problem is I am trying to tune my arrows. I was told with this I should be shooting a 55 to 60 spine arrow at 28 inches so I set up a 60 spine 530 grain 9% foc arrow and I cannot get a consistent group to tell me what I really should be doing. one arrow tells me I am weak and the next tells me I am heavy then it might tell me I am knoch high or low. I am shooting into a foam layered target at 10 yards. Could it just be the target throwing my arrow off as it hits. If I take the arrows that came with the bow which are 29 3/4 long 65 to 70 spine and shoot them they are like a dart at my drawlenght and weight I have actually cut one of these arrows down to 27 3/8 long and it shoots great. Should I just leave well enough alone and shoot the heavier arrow? Just doesn't make any sense to me at all.

I have found for me that when I shoot a recurve with a lighter arrow, the release is more abrupt and much harder to hold steady once the release is made. I had a Palmer recurve that shot GT 3555, and 4560 heritage arrows very well, but when I tried to shoot GT 1535's they flew very well also but my bow arm couldn't handle the recoil after upon release.

Not saying this is your problem, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
