Arrow kicking right...
« on: November 02, 2011, 04:31:00 PM »
Trying to tune on my first TD Recurve that I made. At 5 - 7 feet aroows have about a 2-3 inch kick right. At 10 yards it starts to straighten out. I have a Bear Hair rest on shelf of centercut riser. At first I had the side tab, that came with the hair rest, on vertical part of riser, with a piece of basically thin moleskin on top of that. When I went to just the thin piece of moleskin it helped, but not all the way. What else could be done?
Step lightly, and shoot a trad bow.

58" TD Recurve, 51# @ 28", center cut shelf as described above, Traditional only carbons - 400 grain w/ 100 grain steel force broadheads, 5" feathers w/ left wing twist.
Used weight chart from trad only carbons to obtain the 400 value, arrows are 29".
Step lightly, and shoot a trad bow.

If it is center cut and the string and tips are lining up this set should work, I use a similar set up but my arrows are GT's with a shorter draw 27", arrow length is 28", 60" one piece Bear 47#, 5" left wing, shoots them like darts, very accurate. this is beyond me, maybe the powers to be will chime in and help you out.

The only thing I would tell you is to try a heavier spined arrow and see what happens.

your arrows are too stiff. What is the weight of your inserts??? They need to be about 100 grains. The problem is a 400 spine is probably right on but when you cut them from full length then they turn into a 300 spine which is too stiff.Try adding weight to your point either thru an insert or tip. This is all if youre a right handed shooter.

I am right handed. They were custom ordered. it does not give an insert weight. the arrows say 400 and also 9.1 grains per inch. Which at 29 inches puts'em at 263 and change, minus the insert.
Step lightly, and shoot a trad bow.

This is correct your arrows are to stiff. Try increasing point weight. Masters of the Bare Bow 2 has a good tuning segment.

You are correct, I miss read and thought they were hitting right rather than feathers kicking to the right.

Blue eaglebum, check this out, it might help you out.

I would say go with a 50 grain brass insert and 150 grain point.
