Anchor point vindication!
« on: December 19, 2011, 12:25:00 PM »
So, after almost 33 years of hearing from various archers how my "elbow is too high" and "anchor too high", i had the chance to get a copy of M. Thompson's 'The Witchery of Archery'.

And there it was, in writing with a drawing from almost 140 years ago to show that my natural anchoring inclination from the time i was a small kid was right (for me).

I guess it just re-affirms that we will all sort it out if we give it a chance, and that there truly is nothing new in Trad.    :D

You just have to do what works for you.  There are people who can help you be a better shot but what works for them might not be what works for you.

One of the best shooters I know, Rick Welch, has a very high elbow.

I just started Jay Masseys book after seeing Terry and others recommendation. It seems there is a lot to finding what is comfortable for you all in the context of good alignment and repeatable form.

And you can see this by watching vids like Masters... vol 1, many of these great shooters don't have what many would consider "perfect form"

I'm not advocating bad habits but there is something to having total concentration and forcing the arrow to hit the spot.
