go through your shot process
« on: January 08, 2012, 01:42:00 PM »
Will some of you shooters go through your shot process step by step? Might help some people like me. Mine is: I set my stance stare at the spot with my bow at my side, come to full draw, lifting the bow as I draw. anchor and make sure evrything is set and then try to rotate my string elbow around and I release. I never think about the release or its sloppy. I just think about expanding my draw and the release just happens.

1. Set stance, make sure I am balanced
2. Set grip on bow
3. Set finger position on string
4. Raise bow
5. Apply back tension
6. Draw and settle into anchor
7. Maintain back tension
8. Settle sight picture
9. Continue tension till release
10. Maintain sight picture

Look at the target and for interferences
take stance
knock arrow
tab on string
focus on small spot on target
While maintaining focus raise now arm and draw bow
anchor
release
nothing moves till arrow on target

I've altered mine so many times over the last 5 yrs. Currently I'm shooting the best I have by having a relaxed shooting stance. I first concentrate on the spot then insure that my hand placement on the straight grip longbow is properly placed and my finger placement on the string doesn't pinch the nock to tightly. I again focus on the spot then go through a one thru five sequence. (1) Index finger touches my cheek  bone then (2) thumb knuckle touches just below ear (3) elbow continues back (4) solid bow arm (5) concentrate on point of impact until impact. My one thru three helps me keep moving my arm back in alignment while thinking about a solid bow arm insure that I'm pushing the bow hand to the target. I visualize constantly on my process without a bow in my hand so it has become engrained when I pick up the bow.

I shoot pretty good, and yes I do, I go through pretty much everything but it's almost without me knowing I'm doing it, meaning I am conscious of doing it, but it's secondary to zeroing on my spot, it's like it's happening as I am doing each phase of shooting. If I have a problem I diagnose it and zero in on the problem part. Obviously very hard to explain.
