Feathers - vent

Has anybody else noticied how much of a better product Trueflight feathers are compared to Gateway?
I'm fletching up a 1/2 dozen of Trueflight and they have such a nice edge. I'm fletching up the other half with Gateway feathers and they have a horrible edge for fletching.
Of course I have 4 times as many Gateway feathers.
Ugh.
I can't wait to build my feather jig for my turkey and goose feathers.

I prefer Gateway myself. To each his own. Shawn

Shawn,
Maybe it's the batch I have but the feather edge is like 1/16" on the Gateways and 1/32 on the Trueflight. The Gateways seem to less flexible as well. It's an issue because I like a lot of helical when I fletch.

I totally agree with you, True Flight are consistantly better quality. The most noticable is the quill grind, it is more uniform and thinner allowing it to conform to the shape of the shaft better.

Don't know how Gateway is now but when I was making arrows the quills on the Gateways were very thick and not uniform. They did have some interesting camo patterns that made some nice looking arrows, however. But for overall quality I prefer the Trueflite.

I use both and like them each for different reasons.
Trueflight has a thinner base but its width occasionally gives my chopper fits. Trueflight barred feathers are really well done.
Gateway feathers have a narrower base that chops really well and their camo colors are great. I don't like the Gateway barred design at all.
In practical application on an arrow, I don't see any difference between the two at all.

I like how Trueflight grinds the quill and leaves it a bit wider then Gateway does, it provides a bit more surface area for glue to adhere to.
