Refuse to collapse
« on: June 06, 2012, 05:32:00 AM »
If I were to pick out the one aspect of my current shooting form that I believe has put me over the hump of TP has to me my adopted attitude of refusing to give in to collapse in form.

I think my form of TP came about from not dedicating enough time to learning to shoot correctly when I first started. I just shot how I thought was right, and my consistency suffered leading to accuracy problems which led to confidence problems and BAM launched me into TP.

I hear that confidence issues are a major cause of TP, the fear of missing. And my feeling is that if you just attempt to solve that you most likely never fully do unless you solve what got you to lose your confidence in the first place.

Believe me it took me a long time to figure this out with many DVD's watched and countless threads read. But when I really said it was time to go back to square one. Break down my shot and find what was I doing wrong or not consistent to think in more positive terms. And I did, I was collapsing and I didn't pick it up.

So as Joel has talked about the "Mantra" I began to incorporate as a conscious thought while I am at full draw, "Refuse to collapse". While my body many want to give in to the strain and rush the shot, I mentally and consciously wont let it.

So far I feel mentally and physically stronger on the shot and it allows me to give myself time to set my alignment and execute the shot when it is right to do so.

Dig deeper my friends, the cause is there, you need to find it.

I've been working on the same thing Pete.  Having rebuilt my entire form with the help from quite a few folks here...primarily Moebow via internet, and then Javi in person over the course of several sessions, I struggled for months to get to where I have decent form.  Finally learning to expand once at full draw/anchor has helped eliminate the collapsing.

I don't attribute it to target panic as I never have a problem coming to full draw...it's more a case of "release panic".

How much expansion/continue to pull is too much?, etc.  I got fed up with my struggle to get a good dynamic release about a week ago, and decided I'd just use a static release...Wrong!  What that taught me is that (for me) every shot is a collapse.  In doing this little switch I was able to teach myself that the continuing to pull/expansion is really very little....like Arne says, it's just an 1/8" or so and if someone behind you is watching they wouldn't even see it, as it's internal.  It does keep you from collapsing and keeps things steady on target.

Good luck

What do you mean by "dynamic" vs "static" release?
