Back tension....I got it!
« on: June 19, 2012, 10:16:00 AM »
Since I picked up the stick again I've tried to immerse myself in articles and videos on form. I've gotten excellant advice from and response to form videos I've posted, they've helped a TON, and I thank all! I'm lucky enough to have a backyard range/course with tree stands, groundblinds, trees to shoot from behind etc., and I shoot literally hundreds of arrows a week.

"Back tension, back tension, back tension..." That's been my mantra for the past few weeks. Well I guess I'm finally getting the rhomboids into my shooting because, LOL, THEY'RE KILLING ME and I'm gonna to have to scale back my practice with the hunting-weight bows!

It's OK though, I've got a really nice 38# HC30 Tamerlane target bow on the way, maybe that'll be just the ticket for my rehab....

Same here. I've been shooting for a long time, but my style was NOT like what is spoken about here as far as form. I've worked on my back tension, release and smoother draw. My mantra is now "pick a spot".....unless I overdo it then everything else is falling into place. I'm shooting better than I ever have.

This has got to be one of the best websites around for us tradguys. A sincere thanks to all who contribute.

Congratulations, on getting the back tension thought.

I'm struggling with the whole back tension motion. It has caught up with me, as I'm pretty sure arthiritis in my right shoulder was in part due to my form issues. Now I suffer especially in cold weather.

Any mental tips to get the back tension routine, would be appreciated.

I worked with a homemade formmaster quite a bit and that has really helped me with my back tension. There's quite a few threads on here with good info on building one.

I read another post on this site about Target-panic.  I don't think I suffer from it, but there is a mantra outlined in that thread to talk yourself through the shot, "draw, aim, pull, pull, pull" until the arrows basically looses itself.  Well, I tried it out and it seems to really help my back tension.  The difference in my follow through is dramatic.  I used to have to try to get follow through.  Now it just happens.

I recently got it myself. After about two years being self-taught! LOL.
