I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this. I'm sure, however, that someone will let me know or move it.

I am trying to get a few arrows to shoot about 150-175 yds out of my 45# longbow. I got about 130 yds with my 400 gr arrows.

My question is...how light is too light for and arrow. I know I've seen it somewhere but my research is failing me.

I'm usually trying to see how heavy I can make an arrow for hunting.

I have shot 240-250gn arrows from 60+ bows.
BE CAREFUL! they will expolde.

I would think you could get 200+ with the set up you have now Bona. A lighter arrow is not the only thing to consider in flight shooting. It is how your bow can shoot that light arrow.
hold your arm at 45* and draw as far back as you can,draw thru your release.
I am not an expert by any means but I do like to watch arrows fly and I have shot well over 300yds so far. With a 45# bow. I have gone beyond 250 with a 24" arrow out of a 40# bow.
 
It is great fun,keep it up. You will find what works.  But as I said,Please be careful.

Thank you. I do enjoy watching the flight of an arrow. My ultimate goal is to send 4 tribute arrows heavenward. I've wanted to do this since my father passed. I thought sending one into the nearest reservior would be cool but unsafe and probably unlawful. Last week, when my mother passed, I decided that sending them into the lower acreage from their backyard would be perfect. We've always called it "The Bottom". That's about 160 yds.

I'm working on "perfect" flight. That should help me get more yardage. I'm using O.L. Adcock's system. I prefer things that are NOT flawless. But a nearly flawless arrow flight is beautiful and that's what I want for them; my dad, my son, my brother and now my mom.

This year I shot a clout shoot at 180 yards using a 45# Hoyt Buffalo and GT1535 arrows with 50 gr inserts and 125 gr point, 5" feathers. Arrows made it easily to the 180 yard mark by aiming 45 degrees, pulling past normal anchor while anchoring under chin and giving it the really dynamic release.

I've seen a picture of Jule Adcock just before loosing a world record flight shot. Cool picture! And I watched someone in a video with that release I think you are talking about. I will try it this afternoon.
