Another 3 under question
« on: January 11, 2013, 11:12:00 AM »
Do any of you 3 under folks put you fingers at the bottom of the serving? Here is a better explanation...

I am a righty so I will explain how a righty would do this. With the right ring finger at the bottom of serving, right index finger in corner of mouth, and the arrow lined up with the right eye.

And just so everyone knows. I realize that bows in general are not tillered to be shot like this. I just seen a buddy shooting a board bow he made like this and was curious to know if anyone else did it. I tried it and it seemed to make me a little more accurate out to around ten yards or so but felt very weird shooting farther than that. Thanks for any info. Mike

Do some research about string walking.  Sounds like that is what you are discovering.

The reason it probably made you more accurate out to 10 yards or so is that it put the arrow up under your eye.  It probably wouldn't work so well further out.

McDave, it absolutely did not work farther out. Left and right was still good but it was consistently very low. We were shooting at dandelion's in the grass but up close it was nothing to hit them. Thanks for the info guys, Mike.

I agree with Arne, it sounds like your friend is a string walker. So far a putting the arrow under your eye, it does work fairly well at pointe-blank (10 & less) but loses its luster beyond that. My advice would be to look into string walking if you are interested, but stick with a style (3 under or split) and stick with it.

Side note: string walking is not allowed in a lot of tournaments and circuits, as they require that you touch the nock during the shot. FWIW.

Good luck, and good shooting!
