Face Issues
« on: February 27, 2013, 12:10:00 PM »
I've encountered a problem while shooting a lot of arrows working on form.  My fingertips, mainly by pointer finger tip rubs my face raw where it contacts my face upon release.  I've remedied it by putting a piece of tap on my finger tip, but was wondering if there were any other ideas out there to keep this from happening?

I realize switching from a tab to a glove would likely fix the issue, but I would like to continue using a tab.

Eagle48,

When you hook the string, how long is the leather of the tab as compared to your finger tips?  Many times the feel that you describe is caused by the tab and not your fingers.  The ends of the tab with a good hook and ANY amount of pressure on the string should be 1/4 to 3/8 inch SHORT of the tips of your fingers.

If the tab is longer than that, shorten the tab and see if that helps.

Arne

PS. It is IMPORTANT to check this with a good HOOK on the string and NOT just with the tab laying in your hand!!

sounds like you are turning your face towards your hand rather than bring string to your anchor point on face and leaving your face position stable.  When I find myself doing that the string actually will impact me on corner of mouth.

Try holding your face more parallel to string travel instead of "leaning into" the string as much.  Just a thought...

or maybe cut your fingernails...hahaha  :)

Thanks Arne, that's likely the issue as the tab is longer than my finger tips when I have the deep hook on the sting.  I initially noticed it had soaked up some blood and then saw it on my finger nail as well.

Brock, fingernails are kept short and don't turn the face at all, thanks for the suggestions though.

fingernails was in jest...face turning was a problem of mine so thought I would offer.  I shoot a tab and keep it slightly longer than my fingers and dont recall it ever causing an issue...sounds like is not uncommon.

good luck as that would drive me crazy happening all the time.

It's very frustrating when you walk in after shooting and wife asks if you got beat up by your bow.

Made it a pain to shoot more than 10-20 shots in a session.
