critique my form please!
« on: March 04, 2013, 06:14:00 AM »
Gday,

I've been working on my form the last few months, using video I've shot and watching Arne, Terry etc. and trying to learn and improve. my groupings are ok, but I'm looking for more consistency.

I apologise that this video is not rotated, i have no editing tool for video so please bare with me.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Fanto,

Pretty hard to tell much from that angle.  Draw looks good and alignment at full draw looks good.  In your first shot, your bow arm breaks pretty sharply to the right but is quite good (steady) in the second shot.

If you can get to a place where the camera is "face on" to you, that will help and also a shot from behind and looking down would be good too.

Yep, pretty good alignment at full draw!  I THINK I see a very slight collapse at release.  Really hard to tell for sure but I think I see your string elbow stop and reverse direction very slightly when you release.

Keep doing what you are doing, you should be just fine.

Thanks Arne, I have been battling that collapse for some time ill keep on it.

I feel that my string elbow is a little high. any thoughts?

the Stotler bow in that video only lasted about 20 more arrows after it was filmed, then the riser snapped in half!! cant believe my bad luck with that.

So ill be shooting my 60# recurve again. that longbow was about 72# at my draw and I think the reduced draw weight might enable me to fix that collapse.

From what I can see your string elbow is just fine.  Need that "face to face" video to be sure.  Here is a way to check that elbow's correct height.

Take a picture or video with camera level with your arrow and face to face.  Now at the full draw position, visualize or draw a line from the center of pressure of the bow in your bow hand to the tip of your string elbow.  IF that line passes through or very near your arrow nock, your elbow position is fine!
