I picked up a pair of the Danner Frontiers (which my have evolved to something else by now)several years ago. They were 1000 gr thinsulate, which is way too warm for bow season in these parts, but couldn't pass up 1/2 price clearance in July.  They feel like bedroom slippers, are bulletproof, and can be re-soled as well.  Best boots I've owned. A nice reminder on my feet in Jan.-Feb., when the seasons have long closed and I've got cabin fever.

I'll admit I really like the boots and the terrain I bowhunt in is rugged but I'm disappointed in the soles.
Glad to see so many fellas using Danners and are happy with them. Just gonna have to be more careful when easing around those wet areas.

I've used Danner boots for the last 4 years. Been very pleased with them, and will continue to use them. I go through a pair in about 10-12 months, due to all the walking and use.

You are correct, the Pronghorns and the Sharptails are slippery on wet rocks and streams, but I don't know if I've ever had a pair of boots that wasn't in those conditions?

After years of going through all of the "name brand" boots, I bought a pair of Russell boots from Russell Moccasins.  Pricey but they'll only need resoleing every couple of years.  They are at  www.Russellmoccasin.com.   You can have any sole you want put on them.

They're now the only shoe I wear.  Even bought a couple of pairs of their casual shoes for work.

I have 3 pair of Danners. Remember that some of them are not made in the U.S. 1pr of Instigator for when it's hot, 1pr of Danner lites for work and a 1pr of Raptor type (10 years old). after talking with Danner , they informed me that the "Stiched Down" were the only ones made in the U.S. That being said, I have never had any problems with any boots from Danner. Great customer service. And the have my size 13eee

After reading these post I am convinced that the Danner boots are not the problem. The problem is obviously Joe and Whip. Maybe it is their gait. I'm heading to Cabela's next week to try on several styles of Danner boots. Thanks for the input.   :campfire:

Why don't you get new soles put on by a cobbler.  I have done this to many boots while in the Marine corps.  Should cost about $35.00 then you have the sole you want the boots you already paid for.

I'm ready for bed cause I'm heading to Jersey tomorrow to hunt with Bamboo and Southpawshooter.
I checked the Pronghorns...made in China....My gait? Slow and sneaky...The few streams we cross...we jump over. Plenty of sidehills and rolling hardwoods along with some steep climbs.
Calling for rain tomorrow....I'll just be more careful.

Get a pair of chippewa boots. Best boots I've ever had and you can resole them, also great traction.

anyone used the Jackals in wet conditions? it seems it might be kind of slick too. Guess stalking type boots are a trade off in the best traction.

I have 2 pairs of Danners, The Acadia, and desert acadia boots. both are very comfortable, great support and tough. But they are heavy.
the deserts are too hot for the desert but very comfy from 65 down to freezing temps with appropriate socks. Soles are vibram lug, great for traction but these ain't no stalking boots. But your feet will love you at the end of the day. I have had my black boots resoled once, and danner can rebuild them for you too.

The goretex boots hold water in pretty well, when you are paying more attention to the grizzly you just saw, than to where you are putting your feet when fishing from the edge of a COLD Alaskan lake. Don't ask me how i know this   ;)  At least it was not deep, only up to my neck   :D   but man it takes your breath away!

Joe,

The pronghorns are more of an upland boot. I do a lot of grouse hunting and I see a lot of guys wearing them. I own a pair of Schnees. They are much like the the LL Bean Maine Hutning boot. Except they are are more "boot like". Excellent boots. The heel is way more aggressive than the beans ever were. I also owned a pair of thier pac boots at one time. Also a good boot.

Danner Santiam is the best boot I've ever owned. Every step I take in them makes me glad I paid the extra bucks.

Hey Joe! Sorry you don't like your new boots. What you need for the "spin-balance-grab" routine might be a pair of ballet shoes.... Remember the home made bacon bamboo always has with him? Maybe he greased up your soles...     ... Whatever...

I agree Danners are the most comfortable boot I have owned. However, all four pairs have leaked within a year. Danner replaced three pair and then informed me they would replace anymore. I suspect all were made in China. The last two pairs were. I would only consider them if they were made in the States but, I can't find anyone who sells them.
