New Shooter, First Post, First Vid

Thanks to everybody who helps people and puts info out on this site. It has really helped me improve a lot so far, but as you know I still have a long ways to go. I had my wife record my shooting so I can review it, and figured I would post it here for some criticism. From what I have read, it seems like I need to be pulling through my release with my back more? That being said, One of my biggest improvements so far on paper has been just relaxing for my release rather than actually releasing. in steps for me its something like, relax front hand, pull back, find anchor point and aim, relax.

Pete.

You are looking pretty good.  You do have some impressive "guns" (arms) and yes, you are using them too much.  It can be seen in your follow through -- hand tends to move out rather than back.

As you draw, try to pull the string shoulder back a little more, that will help.

You have a really pretty nice shot but as you note, more back will help and you can get that with the shoulder moving to the back more.

Update after taking advice from moebow. Feeling a huge improvement in consistency after trying to concentrate on isolating just back muscles. For my release i still keep fingers as relaxed as possible, but thinking about pinching my shoulder blades together to take the shot(or something like that).

Pete.

That is really looking good to my eye!!  You have just the slightest collapse as you release -- see your string hand and elbow move slightly forward right at the moment of release.

Try to think "move the string shoulder back," not "squeeze the shoulder blades together."  I think the secret to back tension is to think about moving a bone not trying to activate a specific muscle or group of muscles.

Good job!!

Thank you Arne for taking the time to watch and help. I do see what your saying, and I think its because sometimes I'm pulling past my normal anchor point then slightly retract back into it before I release. I'm pretty sure you actually said not to do this in one of your videos now that I think about it lol. I will try to draw a little less as I come around, then make the final adjustment so I have to pull back and up instead of opposite. I will also try to pull string shoulder back instead of shoulder blades together. Look forward to more improvement, thanks
