HELP problem with release hand
« on: June 12, 2013, 03:31:00 PM »
Over the last few weeks I've been having sore knuckles after shoot.  To the point were I can't shoot more then a few rounds before I can't hold the string.  Anyone have this happen to them?  I'm freaking out with a mountain goat tag in my pocket!

I would go to the doctor and get his opinion.I haven't had that problem but had a buddy that had them.He had some tendon problems in his hand, you never know but see your doctor is always the best bet in my opinion.

Rest and ice, ice even when you don't shoot. Also if you use a tab slip another layer of leather between your fingers and the string. For a glove get something on/in there too. And do what jry says above.

if you think you just need more padding try a big shot buffalo glove. They're smooth as a calf hair tab and have some sort of neoprene cushions on the finger that really help
Now then, get your weapons, your quiver and your bow and go out into the open country to hunt some wild game for me.- Genesis 27:3

I use a Bateman tab, and I had gotten a blood clot on the ring finger, right where the string would slide off, I put a Damascus glove on and it cured the problem until the finger got healed up.

2x check with Dr.  And 2x thicker tab or glove. My choice would be a big shot glove as well.

3X Bjorn.

I had the problem for several years and had to use heavy cardovan gloves or one with metal or plastic inserts.  The problem came back everytime I used a light glove for a couple days.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

More likely tendonitis, you can also get some Arnica Montana pills and gel, very effective on this, but no booze and no caffeine.

You may also want to try using a mechanical release for a while. Take all the pressure off your knuckles, and give them time to heal.

gerhke145,

Please post a picture or two of your string hand at full draw if you can.  Which knuckles hurt??  And are you holding the string on your finger tips (pads of the fingers) or in the first joint?

Knuckle pain is generally not a result of a tab or glove but rather a poor set up on your string hook and whether your hand is relaxed or not.

Can't really say more without seeing.

Another +1 for seeing your doctor.  I generally have to shoot thumb ring if I'm going to be able to shoot for any amount of time.  I have major tendon/muscle issues in my hands.  Your doctor can help you pinpoint your issue.

I agree with Moebow... What you shoot with shouldn't determine the pain in your knuckles. How heavy is your bow?
