What am I doing wrong?
« on: February 13, 2014, 06:23:00 PM »
New LEFT HANDED recurve shooter.  Shot right handed (compound and traditional) and had to switch due to a shoulder issue.  Left eye dominant so I thought it would be an easy switch but I'm struggling with form.  I shoot great and then every 3-5 shots I hit my bow arm at my elbow with the string which causes the feathers to cut my hand.  Needless to say there is bow noise and awful arrow flight associated.  I've had people watch me and they can't tell what I'm doing.  Any thoughts m would be appreciated....very frustrated!

Two things come to mind, without seeing you shoot.

First how is your bow hand grip?  Check here for one suggestion.

Second, hold your bow out as though shooting.  Now bend your bow arm at the elbow.  Does the bow move up over your head or swing around in front of you?  You want it to swing in front of you!

If you have your elbow pronated (point of your elbow pointing horizontally and NOT pointing down) and along with the suggested grip, you should get good string clearance.

See if that helps.
