over-bowed???

I've been working hard on my form. Shooting better since watching Arne's videos.

Been noticing my bow arm shoulder aching after a few shots. Once I noticed it I take a deep breath and rotate my shoulders a few times and usually have to do this before each shot (after about 6-8 shots). Also working to hold that shoulder down after reading recommendations on here regarding form.

Could this be because I'm over-bowed? Been shooting this bow for several months now.

Very possibly. LEARNING the movement can be difficult with 56# if that is the bow you are using.  Once you learn the movement then going to the heavier bow will likely not be a problem as you will have a stronger and more efficient movement.

When you are straining, the movement is affected and the natural reaction is to make it happen which causes strain.

Thanks. Also want to thank you for all the great videos and the time you take to provide them for FREE.

Note that the bow I'm shooting is 56# @ 29". I bought it used and only draw 27 1/2"... so I'm drawing about 51-52 lbs.

I will post a video when I get the time.

Sure appreciate this site and the folks that frequent it!!!

Will look forward to the video.  FOR ME when I learned this form, I used a stretch band of about 10# then a training bow of 16#.  Working up in weight while maintaining the movement.  Now, it is little problem to shoot most anything from 30 to 65# with no stress/strain.  I am "OLD!" and not in particularly great shape or high strength.  It is leverage and movement and not strength that does this.

I agree with Arne.  I used to feel over bowed as well, I would tire quickly after just 10 or so shots.  It drove me crazy, I'm a young-ish fairly athletic guy that can handle my body weight easily in the weight room.  So, why is my 53# bow wearing me out so bad????  

Give the rotational draw a few weeks.  It's still new.  I would be willing to bet that shortly you will feel in much more control of your draw and shot.  That was certainly the case with me.  Your muscles will get used to the new movements stress, and quickly acclimate.  Good luck, hang in there, it'll be worth it I promise.

Thanks. I have been practicing the rotational draw now for several weeks and do feel much more "in control" of the shot. I notice that I shoot better and feel more in control when I limit my practice to every other day and when I haven't pushed myself hard in other exercise/activities.

Wayne, my upper arm in the deltoid area has been aching after shooting my 53 # bow. It has never hurt with my 46 # bow that I do a rotational draw. It is complicated because the new bow is 4 inches shorter and I need to cant it a bit but I went  back to doing a rotational draw.

And here is what I said  to Wayne.

That is looking REALLY good!  How is it working for you??  You are still "catching" the bow at release,  See if you can settle your hand down so the fingers are on the back of the grip rather than fussing around as you reach full draw then catching the bow.  That's the ONLY (minor) criticism I have.

Thanks Arne. When I conciously go through the steps it is like this;

Nock arrow, deep grip, proper grip on bow (do have some trouble with that), breathe in, draw to anchor, aim, release while "pulling through", follow through.

I have also noticed from the video that I sometimes don't have as relaxed of a draw wrist as I want.
