That is is in a nutshell, if you consistently perform the same exact sequence you will develop consistent results, ironically that also lends itself to if you consistently release at a point before your anchor you will have accuracy as well.

Someone who can't consistently get to anchor and release prematurely is not snap shooting.

You want to know what REALLY causes target panic????

SHOOTING A BOW.      :readit:

Seems this is going to turn into a never ending augument....so this thread is dead.

Don't want target panic?....stop shooting a bow. ..and dont blame it on a style of shooting if you have TP.

I suffered from target panic for a long time.  I am also man enough to admit, that for a long time I called myself a snap shooter because snap shooting is a style (like Terry said) and target panic is a mental affliction that gets in the way of the shot sequence.  I even managed half decent accuracy at times, but only because things happened to line up okay when I wildly released my shot.  I have conquered my target panic with the help of many, but it is a constant mental battle to keep it from creeping it's way back in, which speaks to Terry's point that shooting a bow causes target panic.  In my mind, good form is good form, whether the release is immediate or held.  I think it wise for bowhunters to be capable of shooting both ways, as the need arises.  My two cents worth gents.  I have enjoyed this thread.

I was shooting at Muzzy this weekend and someone said to me on one round after I had him down 3-1 after 5 targets......"I never knew you were a snap shooter".   I thought to myself.....I guess.....

I don't really think about it...I do know over time my shot has gotten quicker.

Target panic and "snap shooting" are worlds apart!!!!

The only reason I assumed "target panic" was because the question " how do I start anchoring before release ?" was asked. There are many ,many others wiser than me , but when I had these issues "Blind bale" shooting cured it.

ChuckC I think you hit the nail on the head "The problem with snap shooting is, in my mind, it lends itself to developing a form of target panic"  at least for me anyways. I've been a snap shooter all my life and the problem always seem to be for me: (1)I could never improve "inconsistency" (2)once that i'm in motion,I can't stop and (3) leading to a feeling of having no control over the shot.Having said all that I have also seen some very good "snap shooters"

Again, shooting a bow lends itself to lead to target panic...it does NOT afflict one style over the other.  If you shoot fast(snap shoot), or slow(hold) you can have target panic because it is a MENTAL ISSUE.

Deal with your mental issue and you can snap OR hold....or even do BOTH like many of us do.

Seek out help on Target Panic...do a search on THIS forum and make sure you choose Subject Only and you will find out many ways to help you cure it.
