Shooting to the right????
« on: February 23, 2015, 08:42:00 PM »
I've noticed a pattern with my shooting that I tend to shoot a little to the right over half of the time. Its not crazy bad but usually about three or four inches at twenty yards. Otherwise the arrows are hitting where I want them to most of the time as far as up and down.

Is this just a matter of adjusting my anchor point slightly or is something else possibly to blame? I know the shooter is to blame for sure!

I'm interested to hear what others have to say as well.
Seems like if I "miss" its to the right.  I shoot right handed.
I think in my case I am not keeping my bow arm solid.

A lot of times for me it means that I am plucking the string, which makes it shoot right. Try checking your release to see how smooth it is. Others who know a lot more will chime and can tell you for sure.

The question really is, if you're shooting to the right half of the time, is that when you're shooting correctly or when you're shooting incorrectly?  Because the first thing we want to do is to get you shooting with good form, and then we will get you on target.  I remember years of not quite coming to full draw, which would make me hit to the left, and being able to correct for that by manipulating the bow or the arrow.  When I finally figured out how to shoot, I would hit to the right and then I had to start all over again.  Do you know when you are shooting with good form?  If not, then I would suggest getting some form training.  If you do, then I can give you different suggestions depending on which direction you're missing.

That makes sense. I will concentrate more on my release next time I'm at the range. Thanks guys!

McDave, what you just said is what I've just figured out this week. I was shooting left quite a bit. I finally started working on getting to full draw and a consistent anchor. Since I've "fixed" that, I'm stacking arrows.

My right impacts were a cause of improper bow arm position.  I corrected it my standing 90 degree to the target placing my arm down on my side then coming straight up then turn the bow to an upright position.  This put my bow arm in the correct bone on bone position.  Groups went right to center.  It also relieved muscle pain by eliminating the muscles in the hold.  I struggled with that right shot until I saw a short youtube video explaining bow arm position. Im sure there are many causes to right impacts but this was mine.
