got a good one
« on: November 24, 2007, 08:34:00 AM »
got the best buck of my life Fri. A.M. he came in about 5 min. to 7:00 AM i was in as stand that was put up in AUG. for the first time he was coming down the trail at about 30 yards he started going to the right of my stand. shot through a small hole at about 12 yards i could hear the arrow break a rib but the shot was a little far back  so i left the stand after 1 hour and came back at 12 noon wanted to give him plenty of time to lay down and die.the arrow did not complety pass through, could not get full draw because he went to the right of the tree. the reason he went right is bacuse this fall a large tree blew down blocking the trail and the deer made a new trail giong to the right side of my stand.  found a fair amount of blood the first 80 yards then he headed to a picked corn field lost the blood about 100 yards into the corn  he was headed straight south so i just went to the next fence line and foung a small pool ware he crossed the fence luckly we had light snow earlyer and in the timber their was still very light snow on the ground. about 100 yards latter i found him. this is the best buck i have ever shot and also my first buck since going back to a recurve. dont know how to post pictures  hopefull some one can help with that. the broadhead did break ribs on both sides a little far back but i got lungs and liver and this deer still went over 400 yards before laying down. did the arrow not going all the way through cause him to go so far wondering if the arrow sticking out both sides caused him to spook and run a lot further than i thought he would  good luck to all    doug77

One lung and liver, 400 yards is about right. The breaking ribs more than the arrow in him might send him far. E-mail me the pics and I will post. Its easy if you have digital pics and go to "photobucket" and set up a free account. I resize to 600 pixels wide before uploading to the account. Congrats on you first trad buck.

Love the look of the Iowa woods. Very nice deer too Doug. At first I thought he had a broken G1 on the right, but its just in the shade. Fine mature bruiser. Good Hunting!

WOW! That's a beauty! He looks tough enough to run 400 yards after a double lung/heart shot to me! Great job. Thanks for the pics.
