back tension ?

Hey all, i am having a hard time achieving back tension at further distances and i keep short drawing. 20 yards in im fine with this i dont understand whats going on, any help would be appreciated.

Hey Kyle... Try this. Stare at the field point tip while coming to complete draw and do not take your eyes off the tip until you're at anchor. Once you're there, shift your focus ONLY on what you want to hit let everything else disappear. Relax and focus on a clean release until the arrow hits targe

You are going beyond your normal draw length - trying to compensate the distance with muscles - this is pushing your bow hand to the left while pulling right hand back more than normal (I assume you are RH shooter). It's involuntary.

It makes your brain to skip the 'scary' dialog part that is happening in your mind:

Looking to the tip of the arrow you forget the distance
Looking just to the target once in position you forget the distance.
It's the way to shut-down your voices while shooting. Very good tip Tradcat. I've seen this variant of 'empty your mind' on Recurve Tournament in 2016. A competitor, I think it was a woman who actually went in semi-finals, was looking up in the sky during the draw and just when she was in position she was looking to the target.

Draven i tried it and it does not work for me, ill give it another shot tomorrow, i think the problem is my release, i switched to alittle bit thick glove which is the neet shooting glove with leather tips before i was using damascus and i dont believe i was getting a clean release, i shoot better with the neet glove

Interesting. For me, if I hit left, it means my bow arm did something wrong and the arrow did not cleared the riser without hitting it when launched.

It is slightly off the direction of the target due to incorrect grip or using push-pull more than necessary. Your hands are limited in geometry, when going over the adequate form, they will describe an arc of circle, not an elongated line. And since the stress will be on the back hand - especially without back muscles engaged - the bow hand will push further, but being attached to your body will push left.

Make a video and post it,,,no real way of knowing otherwise.

Get a view from the rear and/or overhead if possible...and of course broadside.

Try doing your daily practicing routine using a blank bale at close range and a light bow (25-30#). This allows you to completely concentrate on your form and release, not worrying about whether you will hit the target or being concerned with releasing before you are ready. It took me only a few days of this to really spruce up my form and grouping. A heavy draw weight can be a debilitating factor in not allowing you to fully engage your rhomboids (back muscles)before releasing, and bad form/training makes for bad shot execution.
