Any 3under shooters go back to split?
« on: August 30, 2016, 04:02:00 PM »
I've been shooting 3much under for a few years now,  but recently had the urge to go back to split and missed that natural feeling and complete instinctive feeling. Maybe IRS a phase.....maybe not.
Take a deep breath and pick a spot

Went back to split 2 years ago, I shot with a high anchor so i can still look down the arrow .
Seems i can get a slightly longer draw with split as well.

I went to split after 25 years of 3 under. I just like the feeling better and the quietness. A disadvantage is you can't string walk!

I went to three under for a while, then back to split, then to a fixed crawl, then back to split, now it depends on what bow I shoot, some I go split and some I go three under

I could not get a decent release three under.  When I went back to split I immediately noticed a smother shot cycle, quieter bow and much better groups.  I like the idea of 3 under and fixed crawl, but have not gotten it to work for me...

Started split then went 3 under for several years.  Went back to split as the bow just feels and sounds better to me.  No doubt it's my release or finger pressure on the string but shooting 3 under sounded like a dry fire.

NBK,

split is DEFINITELY quieter, and significantly quieter IMO.  funny this thread popped up.  I swapped back to split just last night.  I swapped to 3u because of finger pain on the inside of my index finger.  I shot a decent amount last night and didn't feel anything.  I hope it will hold off through the season.  It's crazy the different sight picture you get between split and 3u.  going from being able to see the arrow to not being able to see it is an adjustment, but I like not seeing it more.

That's what I'm liking is the better sight picture. Just got to bring my groups down now. Just to high

I have gone back and forth between split and 3U over the last 16 years with good results shooting both ways... However, since I'm a hunter first and foremost, I have settled on split for the following reasons: (1) I prefer the much quieter thud of the bowstring upon release. (2) I find shooting out of a tree stand with the bow canted at hard angles much easier. (3) I find it easier to consistantly hit "my anchor" because of my facial structure. BUT, if I was only shooting target or 3D, and shooting with the bow more vertical all the time, I'd probably stay with 3U. Please understand that everyone has to make the decision based upon what works best for them and I have made "MY" decision.

I know this is not what you are asking for but I tried 3 under and you can get really tight groups within 30 or so yards (cause the point on is much closer) but my misses tended to be much much worse.

My shot cycle was also slower and your point on is going to be much closer.

Other cons I've found as others have mentioned is that the bow becomes louder and my release is not as clean.

Split finger seems like the much better choice for hunting as well since you have the insurance of always having one finger above the nock.

I went back to split and have never shot better. I was over working my shoulder trying to hold at anchor a bit learning to gap shoot. My focus went to crap. I went back to shooting split total instinctive and have the freezer full this year already. I did miss a couple where I grabbed the bow three under without thinking and shot under them.lol.RC

arrow launcher, what is your two under?  Index and middle?  What are you using for tab or glove?

I've tried both, and prefer split. I shoot equally as well, and love that quiet bow.
