arrow spine
« on: September 21, 2016, 02:16:00 PM »
I am presently shooting a TallTines 60" 52# and also a TT 45# . The arrows I now shoot are carbon express heritage 350 spine 0.324 & 250 spine 0.391.
While shooting at my club some one told me that I was way over spined and should be shooting a much lighter spine ? Really Im confused ?

Depends on draw length and point weight but generally, you would want about a .500 spine shaft.  What's your archery goal?  Hunting, target, or what?

.350 and .250 spine shafts GENERALLY are good for 80 to 100# trad bows.

What's your experience level, how do you shoot? Just too many open questions but I think it safe to say you are getting good advice from your club member(s).

I was going to say that the guy probably didn't realize that carbon express arrow numbers don't correspond to the amount of deflection or spline, but after seeing that you are only getting deflection of .324" and .391", I would have to agree that you are more than likely over-splined.  I would think you need something in the .400-.500" range, maybe even more.
That being said there's many factors that make up the right arrow for the bow/shooter.  Adding more weight to the tip, shooting a longer arrow, or a longer draw length, will effectively increase the deflection of the arrow, and you may be able to make those arrows work.  The best way to tell for sure is to bare shaft test your arrows.

Haha.  I meant to type "spine" not "spline"
