Has anyone attended the Rick Welch shooting school?  If so what were your thoughts and would you recommend it?

I would highly recommend it. I have been and my wife plus return for a refresher, we enjoyed it so much. I also went to his pig hunt combined school. It is seriously a great learning experience plus it is down right amazing how well you will be shooting when you leave!

I've been to his school and hog hunt twice, and would highly recommend his instruction. He's a great guy as well, and when you see him shoot, you will be blown away and exited about what can be done shooting a trad bow. My shooting has drastically improved. If it wasn't for my remnants of target panic from years of snap shooting, I really believe I would be a pretty good shot. Something to keep working on. Just commit to the instruction and I assure you your shooting will improve and continue to do so. Plus I met some great people there as well, like McDave here on trad gang he's the best. I'm sure he will post on here soon

Are use his shooting style just from watching his DVDs which I highly recommend if you can't afford school. I would love to attend though!

Rick believes in small classes and lots of one on one shooting. You almost got it right, Chris. Rick is the best!  Hey, we have to figure out a way to get together again one of these days!

I started shooting in early 70's and have tried every method I could find but still no consistency.I went to Rick's school in August and I am now where I want to be.His method of setting up bows to hit where you are looking and shooting style to me is the best for hunting and 3D.Outstanding guy just wish I would have met him alot earlier.

I went to Rick's school and thought it was very good. Rick is an easy guy to work with and you will leave with a lot of confidence.  If you cannot afford the course right now, the videos area good way to get started.

Top shelf instruction.  He attends to details including form, bow and arrow set up. His methods are proven to work. It is astonishing to see how consistent and accurately he shoots, especially out to 70 yards. Access to and use of indoor and outdoor ranges are excellent environments to learn.

Has everyone that has gone been a 3 under shooter? If not did you switch to 3 under while you were there?

Thanks

I switched to three under based on Rick's recommendation when I attended his class for the first time, some years ago.  I have shot three under ever since, and have no inclination to change back.  Interestingly, a few months back, I forgot to put my bow in my car for my regular morning shoot with my friends.  One of my friends had a spare Hill style longbow with him that he offered to let me use.  Always nice to have friends who carry extra bows with them.  His bow was set up for split, and my feeling is that Hill longbows are best shot split anyway, so I shot split fingers that morning for the first time in years.  I didn't win any prizes, but I enjoyed the experience of shooting a type of bow I normally don't shoot in a style I normally don't use.  By the end of the day, I was actually hitting things I was aiming at with it.

If people don't want to shoot three under, he is happy to teach them if they want to  use split, as the string grip is not an essential part of his style.

What is an essential part of his style is the dead release.  It would be a waste of time to attend Rick's class if you are committed to the dynamic release.
