I think I need a clicker and I hate it
« on: March 19, 2017, 08:02:00 PM »
I am thinking about a clicker. I don't like the idea of a clicker as I have always liked the simplicity of traditional archery and think this is how it should be (for me). My problem is my draw length keeps growing and changing. When I started four years ago I had 28" draw. Last year when preparing to order a new custom bow I was measured at 29 and 3\\4". Now my new bow arrived and I am trying to work up some new arrows  and i noticed that i am now pulling 30 1\\2". If I keep going i am going to run out of arrow length. I literally pull Arrows I cut for the first hunting season off the back of the shelf now. I attribute this to shooting lower weight bows allowing me to get full extension (back tension) and better form. Today while trying to determine my bows weight at my draw length I video taped my arrow. I notice about a 1" difference in draw length between my 44# bow and my 58# bow even though I felt like I was anchoring the same. Has anyone else whent down this road? What was your outcome?

My experience is that increased expansion and back tension might add 1/2" to your draw length, if someone is using back tension to start with.  Are you sure you're not just hauling back with your arms?

I rest my fully extended bow hand index finger along the shaft while I draw, and I know I'm at my 27.5" draw when my finger feels the tip of that insert. At that point, I lock in my back tension and continue my shot cycle. Obviously, this requires me to shoot 30" arrows but it works out well for me because longer arrow reduces my gap and confirms I'm hitting the same draw length every time. Like everything else in this sport, it's all personal and different for each one of us... It may help u. I hated the idea of using a clicker so I made a mental one out of finger lol

I had the same problem. I tried a clicker for a while for the same reason, but since I was still so new it did as much harm as it did good, as my form was too inconsistent to use it properly.

Ultimately the only thing that really helped me was sticking to the lighter bows for a year (dropped down from 65# to 49#). My draw went to 31" and has pretty much remained the same ever since. These days I'm still only shooting 40-45#, but when I do pick up heavier bows I don't lose draw length like I used to.

Clickers don't help by simply installing one, you must use it with proper form. Therefore why use a clicker when all you have to do is use proper form.

Clickers are not the answer in my opinion. using something mechanical to fix a mental issue is something that wouldnt work for me. When i have form issues or changes I go back to the basics and work hard on form. it seems weird to me your draw length is changingthat much. I am not a shooting coach but that doesnt sound right.

I went down that road when I first started but if you have a solid anchor such as the corner of your lip or a specific tooth it's almost impossible for your draw length to increase since you are going back to the same spot every time. Do you bend your bow arm at all?
