Split. Very surprised by the numbers tho.
From reading posts here I thought that three under was really gaining converts.

Split for 55 years.

Changed to three under last winter for 3-D's since those are relatively short distances. Works well for an old low draw weight rosewood recurve with  arrows long enough to hang laundry from them.

I still shoot split for my other old rosewoods on the rack.

Three under. Started split but switched to make close range hunting shots easier.

3 Under, I get a smoother release without the arrow between my fingers. I can get over the arrow better too.

Wow, I'm really surprised by the results of this. I was taught 3 under when I was about 12 and anything else just feels wrong and I can't get a smooth release.  That said I was again discussing this at the local Trad acrhers club and basically if it's not a straight laid (HH style) longbow and split finger then "its not real trad".  It's this militant "trad/not trad" mindset that turned me off trad last time around.  Sigh.  I'll keep shooting what I want, how I want and I'll enjoy it no matter what.

Mate I'd LOVE to find another club but it seems Trad acrhery is very much stuck in the dark ages in Australia and my only other option is the local compound club.  Which I'm happy to shoot at as they at least aren't causing me to hate club shooting.

I wouldn't call shooting split and Hill style dark ages, but there is a painted over arrow hole between the up stairs windows of my house, they are 7" apart.   That was me shooting three under with a short recurve, I lifted the arrow off of the bow as I drew and released. I shot three under years ago when I had a 50" Browning Cobra, I decided that short bows and three under were not for me.  Even then, I had to be very careful when shooting at game, so I wouldn't lift the arrow.  I found it very distracting and threw off my shot timing. Some can do it without a second thought.

I was referring more to their midset than the equipment choices being dark ages.  I'm more than happy to see people shoot a bow that makes them smile be that compound, longbow. recurve or otherwise.  My definition of Trad is "single string" there are sub groups that fall under the trad umbrella like:  Primitive
Trad Longbow
Modern (hybrid) Longbow
Recurve

And then barebow or sighted.  The focus of Trad archery should be the simple joy of shooting a single string bow not the gear snobbery that seems to be the focus here in Australia.

Split. It was just what I was taught as a kid, and I never tried anything else.

I'm around A LOT of archers. I can't think of even one who shoots three under.

Almost all of them are hunters, maybe that's the reason for the prevalence of split.
