Arrow tuning with a fixed crawl.
« on: October 05, 2017, 05:23:00 PM »
Messing around with a fixed crawl. The arrows I started with were perfectly tuned for normal shooting 3 under. Now I've got my point on distance down to 25 yards but my arrows are flying kinda crappy. Does the fixed crawl make an arrow weaker or stiffer? I'm assuming it'll make it stiffer but just wanted to ask. Not sure which way I need to go to get them back in tune.

It made mine fly stiff when I just crawled down from my under the nock  tune I had. Not a lot though. I just moved my center shot in a bit and got the arrows back in line.

You say they are flying crappy.
Being a little stiff should not really affect arrow flight. I would think a nock height change will straighten things out.
By the way you do have a 2nd nock point don't you.
If not it is needed when shooting a fixed craw most of the time.
I like wood bows. They fit my style and mentally simple self

I'd suggest bare shaft and arrow group tuning at your crawl and make sure the first adjustment in nock set height.  It should come together quickly.

Depending on how far down your crawl is you may need to raise your nocking point.

Usually it’s porpoising. (Arrow moving excessively up and down along the vertical plane). Unless your crawl is really small you usually have to retune your set up. A high nocking point is usually a good start. Also if you are not using a rest of some sort you might consider it as it really helps. A bear wether rest is simple, tough, and works really well.
