Longbow or Recurve
«
on:
November 25, 2007, 05:45:00 PM »
I want to say one thing before, I get started. This is in no way a thread to start an argument over Longbows and Recurves cause, I shoot both, and enjoy them both, very much and don't think, I could ever choose one over the other.
Question: Which bow do you prefer, and why, or do you like to shoot both as, I do?

I shoot both but I prefer to shoot my longbows. I just seem to be more accurate with a longbow and I like the smoothness of a longer more forgiving bow.

I prefer the recurve to a long bow. I enjoy the looks and size of a recurve.

I just like the feel of a recurve,I shoot both. But I just love the look, feel, and shootability of a recurve.I have taken more deer with a longbow but that was all that I had hunted with until a few years ago.

I like the longbows like Habu VyperKahn L, Brackenbury Non-Typical, and Morrison Shawnee with Dakota limbs. I like their recurve style grip, but the quietness of the longbow limbs.

I like the longbows. I feel and sound after the shot. Just a thud and it's over.

I prefer the Longbow over the Recurve bow for many reasons- lighter in hand, less finger pinch, maneuverability, forgiveness, simplicity, aesthetics -beauty, and they just feel right. I especially like the Hill style strait handle Bows. Mike

I shoot both. I'm shooting the longbow more than the recurve lately. It always amazes me how a weapon so light and delicate can bring down animals a thousand times its weight.

I shoot both. Right now it's recurve but I like the look and feel of the longbow as well. I have a tendonitus problem in my elbow and the recurve seems to put less strain on it.

Longbow or Recurve??
Today, or tomorrow??
I love 'em both, and change back and forth often enough to prevent becoming proficient with either. But hey, I like it!

Longbow.
A longbow to me is like a fine side by side shotgun. The way they look, feel and handle just says "Traditional". The recurve is the over and under, better then a semiauto (or compound) but lacking. Recurves can be pretty but never gracefully.

Hey Whip,
That is exactly how, I am...... I love both, and just can't limit myself to shooting one or the other. I shoot them both well, and switching from one to another has never been a problem for me.

Longbow for me. There is something "pure" about a longbow that I feel like is missing in a recurve.

I shoot both I have not shot a type of bow that I have not liked. I have found I prefer recurves for hog hunting and longbows for deer. I couldn't really tell you why I have found this preference, just that I have.
I also prefer a selfbow for small game; but I currently am without one, for some reason the and osage selfbow seems to be suited to rabbits and squirrels.(It could be I just like the added excuse a selfbow gives me for m-m-m-missing those little critters;"Well I guess I just don't shoot this one enough.")

I only have the one bow, so I suppose I prefer my recurve at the moment. Heck - it shoots better than I do anyway. :-D

Mike,
Long time no hear from...I enjoy shooting both, but I get my Centaur any day now and I am really looking forward to putting the time in a longbow for a while. Hope all is well. Mark

I prefer the simplicity of the longbow for hunting.
