Looking for info on Pearson Cougar 705
« on: November 26, 2007, 10:13:00 AM »
Just recieved a 45#@28 - 62" Cougar 705, it has reddish brown glass and some sort of figured wood in the sight window.  Trying to figure out what type of woods, what model year, ect.  I searched archery Archives.com and only found 7050..is this the same?  Serial number is 05-xxxx.

I am refinishing this bow and curious....

I have the same bow and the model# is 7050, so maybe the last zero got rubbed off.

After a little digging on the archery archives site, the 7050 cougars (with brown glass) were made from 68-69 and have "solid bubinga handles".  The model# was changed in 1970, but back to 7050 again for 71-72 and lists "Solid imported hardwoods in handle".

Here is some more info I came across from another forum:

"One of the ways BP reduced the cost of bows, and not just entry level ones, like the Cougar was to order thinner wood than required for the risers and the laminate several together. It made a stronger riser, with sometimes spectaular contrasts and sometimes they were not even noticable, unless looked for."

Mine has 3 pieces of wood glued together for the handle and the window section is highly figured and glued near where the top of the sight window starts flat (pretty).  Saw another bow on **** with just #705 so I think it was a seperate model # and noth rubbed off.  Still looking....

That's wierd, there were cougars made in 65-66 that have three different woods in the handle but the site lists them as 706 model number and 64". Maybe typo's on the site?

Got any pics of the bow?

Here are the pictures I got when I purchased the bow.....it does not show the figured wood in the sight window very well or the handle material but does clearly show the 705 markings....

I am sanding it down now...I'll take some pics tonight....it looks like 2 different types of wood in the handle but 3 layers (laminations)...the middle darker woods seems to be the same as the figured wood in the sight window...just runs down the center of the handle.

By the looks of the decal I'd guess it was made sometime in the 60's. Here's a few pics of mine. BTW, the two x's in front of the 45 mean that your bow is actually 43@28. If the x's came after the number it would mean the bow is heavier by one lb for each x.

My riser also is made up of three lams , in the pic you can see one of the glue lines clearly.

Thanks,  yes I just figured out the xx's LOL!

It also had 43 stamped under the sideplate.....I am excited to get my refinishing job done and end up with a sweet looking bow like yours!  The darker middle lam on mine should be interesting....
