My Custom Rig
« on: February 11, 2011, 10:54:00 AM »
New to the site and glad to find this topic.  I am an avid smoker and last year I built my own big rig for doing a big party hear and there.  Thought I would share some pics.

This was a 300 gallon fuel tank.  It has a reverse flow design.  I use charcoal and wood for heat.  The gas is mainly used for starting the fire or to keep a warming temp.

It will also come in handy as using as a heater box for building bows.

Thanks
Matt

Thanks, I will use the standard oak and hickory for big meat smokes and any fruit wood for smaller stuff.

Nice job, I like the closures on the doors, really seal them tight to keep your temp true.  Do you have a drip valve underneath to facilitate cleaning the rig out after a big smoke? What thickness is the steel, 3/8 or 1/4? Very well done, now throw some briskets, shoulders, and ribs on those racks.  They're too clean, they need some drippings on them, break it in.

Man if you ever roll that Rig in my neiborhood I'll take a Pork barbeque Sub with all the fixins...If you need to name it How about "THE BIG PIG RIG"... Now that's my idea so to use that name I'll take 5 # of barbeque and we will call it even...

I finished the build last spring, so its not that clean anymore.  The tank is thin, maybe 14ga.  I wish it was the thicker stuff and my next one will be.

THE BIG PIG RIG, I like it.  I am doing a couple hole hogs this summer.

I really like your set-up, looks well thought out. You can smoke a lot of meat in that thing, awesome.
