I'm with you my friend!

In fact I love escargot with hot lemon butter!! Yum!! I used to ordered these every chance I got when I was in France.

You must realize that even though the French aren't always the nicest of folks they could cook my boots and they'd taste great when they got done.

Sam,

When I lived in South Carolina, our standard hunting club breakfast:

Country Ham from the smokehouse on property
Grits with crumbled smoked bacon
Brains and eggs (tree rat)

Brings back some good memories!

Frankwright and Mudd,

When I was first married my wife use to do Escargot with garlic and butter in mushroom caps, served over a bed of GRITS, all sprinkled with shallots and pepper. Sometimes sprinkled with cheese.

Best Escargot I ever ate!

Do they require packages of Grits to have CPR instructions printed on the label? If so do the put them on the front or back? Large or small print?

Thanks!

Once on a motorcycle trip through Arkansas, we stopped at a country house that had an open sign in the window and a magical smell. A woman had turned her house into her restaurant after her husband died.  This fine southern black lady was the best cook that I have ever met.  She feed us things for a day and a half that I have never heard of it was all great, even her grits had something special about them.  When we were somewhere else I ordered the grits, I don't think a camp robbing bear would have eaten what was slopped in that bowl.

You were doing fine until that last bit, that's when I lost my lunch. If the CDC reports a new disease, it will probably be Mad Tree Rat disease.  :help:

I just had some goat cheese laced grits, with sea salt and pepper- a five variety tomato(orange, yellow, tiger striped, and red meaty ones in a salad with thyme, basil, blood orange, olive oil and lemon juice dressing mixed with finely grated garlic and fine chopped chili pepper- minus the seeds- and grilled hog chops stuffed with a goat cheese and tarragon mix.

Home made iced tea with mortar and pestled home grown mint, with a fresh slice of mango in the glass.

The grits were smooth, creamy, and went great with the other items....I've grown to really enjoy them since living in the South.

Ron , I guess you forgot about the chocolate gravey Doris served you when you were here in our Tennessee home. You can talk about grits but everytime we go to Penn, they try to  serve us
something made out of pigs eyes. They call it scrapple!

Bawana, you just about had me hooked till you mentioned brains in the eggs.

I think my dislike for this goes back to a hospital visit in 1967. I ran a fever of 106 degrees for three days, and went without solid food for 5 days. When I got to the point that the doctor would let me eat solid food, I wanted  - you guessed it - eggs bacon, grits and biscuits. But the eggs had the pork brains scrambled into them, which was something I had never tried before. What a disappointment, but I was so hungry I ate it all. Just don't care for it though.

Essentially I don't eat much organ meat, except in baloney, potted meat, and other such delicacies.

This thread is about what a bowhunter eats for breakfast before he goes out to hunt,

Napoleon said, "An Army marches on it's stomach"

So it seems only natural that.. "A Bowhunter HUNTS on his stomach"    :readit:

It's my experience that most folks make their grits too runny. Mom's were always just slightly looser than good mashed potatos.

Big scoop of grits, two REAL biscuits; cover everything with sausage gravy (have yet to find or make a better sausage than Blue&Gold brand). Add to that two eggs over medium with crispy hashbrowns. Apply A-1 to the hashbrowns liberally.

Wash it all down with COLD milk then a good cup of coffee.

THAT is this hunters favorite "goin' huntin'" breakfast. Unfortunatly more often than not I settle for a Honey Bun and truck-stop coffee.

Maybe we could make the first grits backed Osage selfbow? Or would Live Oak be more appropriate for a southern wood?

I ran out of Grits yesterday so I I went to the local grocery store here in town. All they had was INSTANT grits. Rather than drive the five miles to Walmart for some real grits I bought em.    :biglaugh:
