If anyone think that a few folks making fun of my taste buds or cajoling me is gonna do the trick of getting me to give grits another try.. you can think again!!...lol

My mother was mean as a snake when it came to us eating what ever it was she put on the table. She never seemed to mind one bit if you decided to skip a meal because your taste buds didn't favor what she had on her menu.

She said "eat it or let it alone but keep your grumbling to yourself or leave the table." She also kept us informed that she wasn't a restaurant that took meal orders, she was just the cook and the only cook in her kitchen and you'd eat what she had to offer or go hungry. She fell short of being a panderer!!!!! ...lol

God bless you mom!

Have a good and Godly day!

I've bit my lip several times and avoided posting on this thread, but it went and gone too far...

Smack talking biscuits and gravy AND putting cheddar cheese on a piece of apple pie?!?!?

How dare you.

Grits is a food of Native American origin that is common in the Southern United States; it mainly consists of coarsely ground hominy (dried maize kernels which have been treated with an alkali), or nixtamalized. It is sometimes called sofkee or sofkey from the Creek word. [1][2] The name 'grits' likely derives from the Northern European grit gruels.  Nixtamalized? Treated with an alkali?

I think DocNock touched on this but two times per year at deer camp and bass fishing camp I eat "liver puddin gravy" prepared by an old friend.  It is basically ring pudding cut into chunks and reduced in a cast iron fying pan with chopped onion, salt and pepper to a semi liquid resembling something a large dog would leave on the rug when he has an upset stomach.

Served on a slice of homemade bread and over fried hominy and a fried egg or two.  It's quite tasty although I warn the guys to schedule their bypasses early in advance.

Oh YEAH Baby! Way to make it sound slightly less appetizing. Never thought it was possible, but you nailed it!

So I know who I'm inviting to my November Trad hunt this year. Just as long as they cook breakfast anyway...Mudd and Rob.

Like I said before, I have eaten both Grits and taters with eggs before going out for a morning hunt. Grits or potatos will stay with you while hunting just the same, but why would you CHOOSE grits over taters?

And don't forget to throw in the chocolate(bar or pie) with a  coke to wash it all down!

Actually....I wouldn't not invite Ron LeClair to my hunting camp. Heck, we will find room. Why don't ya'all come and eat what you like!    Mr. LeClair has to bring some chocolate pie with the graham cracker crust though....

Ok It had been a while since I had last tried them. But due to this thread I bought some to try. I think I'll stick with biscuits.

What is the record for longest thread? Amazing that the humble grit has inspired 20 pages of hearty discussion!   :clapper:

I think that it's lasted this long because just like the "grits" I get in my shoes, it's just plain hard to get rid of....lol

Maybe that's why they say they will stick to your ribs??.. or pot they were cooked in? your plate?

Redogge,

Yup. Scrapple. Puddins. Pan Puddin. Blood Sausage. Blood soup.

3 helpings in a given month and you get a free stint put in at your local hospital...

Never quite thought of it all puddled up in a pan to be like dog vomit, but  hey...since the only of that I eat is scrapple (and ticular bout that), ya can't make me want it LESS.

Still think Grits is S'uthin spaghetti. Nothing of a real taste it'self, but lives in infamy for what's put on it, mixed in it, or poured over it.

That ain't necessarily a bad thing...  :)

Doc Nock I kind of agree with you but I think it's closer to "southern tofu" which is used in a similar matter.

I guess it doesn't really matter about the taste or texture to some folks, just those of us with discerning taste buds...lol
