Longbow best grip shape for deer hunting?
« on: November 27, 2007, 12:32:00 PM »
Most of my deer hunting is shooting down at a angle from a stand. The shot must be good. Does it make a difference if the longbow grip is;  recurve type, Hill straight, slight dish like a PL Black Widow. Some longbows are on durning that critical few seconds from draw to release. Even thou you have practed with whatever grip, which grip is best for shooting down at deer?

Whichever grip suites you the rest of time. I would not consider switching grips or bows just for a certain type of shooting. I order all my bows with the exact same grip - consistancy is #1.

IMHO The answer is simple, whichever one you shoot the best.

Flat shots or downwards shots should be the same as far as your form goes so use the one you have the most confidence in.

What Hunt It said sounds about right. dino

I have to go along with the rest.....no need to change grips for different game.  If you bend at the waist on downward shots, your alignment and form will be the same.....and if you just lower your bow arm instead, no grip is going to save ya.

My Robertson has the slight pistol grip and my Hills are dished and straight.  I found that the locator type to be a bit clumsy at first compared to the dished and straight.  If I was to get another Robertson I would get a dish so the bows would all feel the same, but what ever you get used to, should work fine.

What Terry Green said, the grip doesn't matter for uphill/downhill as it should be the same.
