Any members hunting hogs in CA?
« on: April 25, 2004, 12:30:00 AM »
I moved back to San Diego last August after spending 6 years in Eastern Ohio. I need to get hunting again and would like to know if anyone hunting wild pigs in California can point me in the right direction as to where and whnen to hunt hogs. Thanks.

Chaser, there's great hog hunting all around the state.  I'm up in the Santa Cruz area and it's good up here.  Not sure what all's down there in the SD area but I'd be pretty certain somebody'll weigh in with better info.
Meanwhile, there's good stuff on Jesse's Hunting Page - here's a link to his CA page.

Been hunting with Bert Claassen for several years with great success.  He hunts out of the Paso Robles/San Miguel area.  Great service and a good price.

I may not be hunting a deep as I used to but I'm still hunting.

In an earlier career as a uniformed officer, I used to spend summer months supporting National Guard training in the area around Camp Roberts, CA.  We used to see lots of wild hogs in that area.  There were outfitters in the adjacent area around Paso Robles that offered hunts.

Jose,
California Hunting Digest lists the Cleveland Nat'l Forest, specifically San Diego River drainage in the Palomar and Descanso ranger districts.

Says you just need to make sure you are on public land.
And....you are more than welcome to conact me if you find decent public land to hunt pigs!!!!

Good luck.

Craig

PS
That would go for any of you. I live in the Eastern Sierras and would be willing to scout A20 for ya in exchange.............  :campfire:
OR
take ya along when I get the tag next year.....
Hunt it, kill it, grill it!
