Need Help With Bow for Bear
«

This year I will be hunting bear in Northeast Pennsylvania. The season is only 3 days long, and I want to be sure to have the right equipment to make a clean kill, if I do get a chance. I want to buy a new bow (or used...new for me). Any suggestions? Also, any help with arrows and broadheads will be helpful. I have never hunted bear before. Thank You.

I would use the same setup you use for hunting at home. If you hunt whitetails it will work for bear just fine. Joseph

I have decided to go ahead and make a bamboo backed hickory for this hunt. Thanx for the info.

FC,
That is some really good advice from Tom. I shot a couple of bear in the shoulder blade before I really knew where to hit them. Both times I thought I'd made a good shot, and it would've been on a deer. Shot placement is key.

Oh, i can say good luck for you with the bear. Because the most important, is shot in the best place of the animal. If you are a good archer, equipament is not the most important thing. The most important, is you.

As it turns out, I won't be hunting bear after all....the other members on the lease I have are going to get together with rifles and drive the property all three days of the PA bear season....not a total loss though, as my boo backed hickory is coming along nicely.

If there is going to be a drive, I would set-up and let the drivers send the bears to you.
